MATERIA STAT CAP!?! HEY... WHAT THE!?!?!?!!!!1!1!1!!! ...QQ

    This is horrible!

Last night I spent over 1000gil on three pieces of strength materia to add to a HQ Lance (Iron Guisarme) I made for a friend. So I melded two of the strength materia into the two slots then noticed on the item description window that each materia said strength +0!!!

    NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

That's two materia wasted and I'll have to try to HQ another spear to add something else to :'(

Why can't the game stop you from adding strength materia if the strength stat is capped for that item? WHY!?

Why is there no indication or warning that certain stats are capped on an item and can't be improved? Why, why, why? How can I tell if a stat is capped before adding the materia (and possibly wasting it and the item)? D':

If you listened to the Goblin who taught you how to work with Materia, its in the explanation.

Edit: Also the item isn't wasted, the Goblin instructor can remove it.

Are you sure he explained it? I don't think I actually spoke to the goblin about materia yet, just the roegadyn and hume. I think there's advanced melding or something coming up but haven't got to that yet.

Either way, the materia would still be lost right? And how the hell am I supposed to know if the stat is capped or not before adding the materia? I think the game needs to indicate this, or better yet just not let you meld materia that will exceed the cap for a given stat.

Before you add the materia to an item, it will say in red text that you will not be able to get the full amount and the amount you will recieve will be shown in red text. So you must have missed the STR +0 and the warning.

Also as a rule of thumb, typically HQ gear will not allow for any extra base stats (STR/VIT etc) as HQing them boosts it to the maximum for that item level.

Thanks. I'll try again and look out for that.

Thanks! I'm happy to say you're 100% right:

I feel a bit silly now, but very glad this warning does exist lol

So is there any way to determine the max amount of a stat an item can have? I wanted to meld a bunch of gp/perception materia to my gear, but unfortunately I can't seem to meld more than 1 level 2 gp materia to my ilvl 55 botanist gloves, or even a single level 1 perception materia.
