I will admit, controllers are the bomb for crafting cause you only need a few buttons and its relaxing. But in the heat of battle, nothing is better than a keyboard.

I guess I should also explain how I control this game. I use a Logitech G13 keyboard in combination with a G15 keyboard. Between the two I have over 150 G keys that I can program anyway I like, plus the G13 has a joystick that I have mapped to the left stick of my controller so I have fluid motions too. The problem is I want to map my arrow keys to my G13, which I did but for some reason, mid battle instead of changing ability bars I am changing targets. Its very frustrating. If they would just split up the actions into seperate keys the problem would be solved.
I also realize that they are changing the whole battle system soon, so there is no point in wasting time on the current UI. I just hope that the new battle system/UI is more customizable. We all have our own ways of playing this game, we should be able to make any button on our keyboard / controller do anything we want them to do.
I want to see the fixed keys section in the config menu disappear. There should just be a giant list of actions and we put in any key we want to do any action we want. And don't force any two actions on the same key. Especially one of the most important actions, like the ability bar scroll keys >.<
Yup 16 Buttons.
Up,
Down,
Left,
Right,
Select,
Start,
Square,
Triangle,
Circle,
Cross,
L1,
L2,
L3,
R1,
R2,
R3,
But then you also have.
L1 + Square
L1 + Triangle
L1 + Circle
L1 + Cross
L1 + L3
L1 + R2
L1 + Select
L1 + Start
L1 + ....
Really do I have to keep going?
Not to mention Pressure Buttons
Square Tap, Square Hold, Circle Tap, Circle Hold, etc.
LOL, L1+Square nor the others are additional buttons, If you wanted to go there, then consider the combinations with a keyboard.
Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2, Alt+1, Alt+2 So on and so on, need I continue.
Moron >.<
My keyboard is a Logitech G13 which has a joystick for fluid motions. ^^ Of coarse I use a G15 as well.I've used controller for ffxi and ffxiv. I like the fluid movement of it and the fact that I don't have to haunch over a keyboard and develop carpal tunnel. 100+ buttons doesn't always mean better, it makes it more complicated for people. Have you ever find yourself asking your linkshell, "Hey whats the button for autorun?" If you ask me, its L1 shoulder button. For those that say, "Oh, it's so horrible they cater to controller players!" This is one of the few MMORPG's that actually have a controller option. Everything else out there is keyboard only. Without the controller option, I will not play an MMO at all, so that crosses out 98% of everything out there.
And no, I have never asked anyone what the autorun button is, because I am not an idiot... >.>
There is a real good reason why 98% of MMOs use the keyboard over a controller...
Think about it.
You're still thinking aren't you... >.>

Still thinking?
Controller really limits a player, but if you choose to limit yourself, so be it. I do hope SE down the line adds proper keyboard/mouse controls, but I'm not holding my breath... I have a top of the line controller as well as top of the line keyboard and mouse and of the two interfaces I prefer keyboard and mouse purely because I feel more restricted using the controller. I can't quickly change between action bars and spells with a controller because you have to scroll around. In addition, if you have a group of mobs you can't target the specific one you need to right away, you need to cycle through all of the targets in your field of view until you land on the one you need. A controller really restricts you as a player.

Thank you Ava ^^
yes 100+ buttons and playing this game with a keyboard is a freaking nightmare.
Joystick > keyboard because of the poor poor POOR setup of the buttons and camera controls.
i wish i could program a cure macro into my mouse.
You gotta love having the game focused around a version of the game that isn't even out yet. Also have to love the fact that they still haven't changed it.
I wish they'd drop the PS3 release, having the game tied to a console will only hinder it in many ways.
