Yeah, I noticed that too. With all of the shades of gray surround aspects of the story, I'm starting to think the Baldesion might be hiding something big. Possibly that white Ascian-looking robe was actually Baldesion? Would explain how/why they had the Replica Dark Crystal

Part of me wants to believe they're Ishgardian, and are the ones who Rowena is working for. As mentioned before, they have access to some pretty unusual artifacts and information.

It is discovered in the new Main Story quests that this theory about the white-robed Ascians isn't correct.

In the attunement quest for The Crystal Tower, you meet someone claiming to be a Student of Baldesion. He is a Miqo'te Archer who introduces himself as G'raha Tia (which definitely makes him a Seeker). His whimsical manner is a match for the Arcanist Guildmaster (coincidentally enough, also a Male Miqo). This new character seems to be significant to the plot of exploring The Crystal Tower. He makes the implication that the expedition is to be an equal partnership between Cid's group (The Garlond Ironworks have yet to be reconstructed), The Sons of Saint Coinach, The Scions, and The Students of Beldesion. An interesting thing is that he has tattoos similar to the ones that The Archons have. This leads me to wonder if he is also an Archon. The style is unmistakable.

Krile's name was dropped near the end of 2.1's storyline. I had no idea that was their last name until it was brought up here.

Bit of a necrobump here, but I have a little more information.

We actually see a Student of Baldesion in the Waking Sands in the story. I just got to Terror at Fallgourd on my alt and found an NPC named Clive, a male Midlander in Foestriker gear, conversing with an unnamed female Midlander in Acolyte robes. They are in the northern section. They both have red hair with blue streaks.

Clive merely mentions that he comes on behalf of the Students of Baldesion, though he is rather snooty about it and tells you to leave.

It's not much...but....it's something? I'll update as I go along and see if they change at all.

EDIT: Clive warms up to you on your next visit. Says he expects great things from you.

However, Clive and his acquaintance are seen lying dead in the hallway leading to the Solar during the Garlean purge of the Waking Sands. Seems this was a dead end after all (no pun intended).

Just noticed this a full year later....

Yeah, since we don't really get any juicy info about the Students from him and he winds up just being ANOTHER giant story macguffin, I kinda write him off...

I'm wondering when we'll see the significance of the loss of Val. Whenever it's mentioned by Minfilia and she's freaking out about it....I can't help but feel distanced from it. The Students are still so far off-camera that I can't understand what I'm losing by their home base being ZOIP-ed. And no one else seems to care besides Minfilia.

Is...is there something we're missing? Is it just me that's this bothered by this?!

The reason of Minfilia's freaking out more than anything, if I do recall it correctly, is that she has a very dear friend in that organization. So when the news of the Isle of Val being gone, she feared for her friend... Aside from clearly having lost some smartasses who also provided us with some tools for our fight.

Just found out about this in the storyline from looking at random stuff on the ff wiki, from that:

Although not written in the dialogue, Minfilia speaks to a person, named Krile, via linkpearl in an underlain audio, after the Scions reunite and escape Castrum Centri together. After her audio is finished, there is a brief line where she says, "... My regards to grandfather." Most likely referring to Galuf.

In patch 2.1, this Krile is directly referenced in main-quest written dialogue, and in patch 2.2, it is discovered that the Isle of Val has "disappeared", and it is feared Krile has gone with it. It is later reported, in patch 2.3, that Krile has survived the incident but has been left near-comatose from the experience and is recovering, with patch 2.4 making mention that she's continuing to recover but is still not conscious.

Furthermore, the "Krile" character mentioned here is said to be part of the "Students of Baldesion". Precisely how deep this connection may be has yet to be explored, and the character, whoever they may be, has not yet appeared on-camera in the game.

One thing nobody else has mentioned here, when Minfilia says "... My regards to grandfather." ...that wording could mean Minfilia and Krile are related...sisters? Krile does look a lot like Minfilia...
