    Whydoes fisher have no native abilities that cost GP, and only one learned ability?

    In some ways I'm happy fishing is different from the other gatherers. Despite its uselessness, it's not unfun and I like that you can do it almost anywhere rather than just in set spots. But despite being a disciple of the land, it's too isolated from the others, and the devs missed any oppertunity to leverage the class system on it. Why does fisher even have GP if they have no use for it? I found that they CAN set the Ward abilities from miner and botanist (as well as the node detection abilities that can actually be set on ANY class, even disciples of war/magic), but it's not clear if it actually does anything or not. Can shards be obtained from fishing? so far I haven't seen any. If you activate one of the Ward abilities on fisher, you get a buff that doesn't go away until you change classes.


    I don't know, it just bugs me. Even without making a minigame out of fishing, they could have given it some more abilities. I'm not sure what tehy were thinking. Yes, fishing was heavily abused in FFXI by RMT, but by making fishing unattractive, RMT simply went for the next most lucrative gatherer.

    TL;DR: I like fishing, but why doesn't it learn anything?

    (And, do the Ward abilities actually do anything on fisher?)

    Didn't version 1.0 have spearfishing? I didn't always like the minigame, but it was kind of interesting instead of how it is now all the time. Got to 50 on my fishing, most of the hours spend with fingers on two or three keys, listening for the sound while i watched tv. Would have been nice to have GP skills to at least break it up.

    Also curious about cross class skills, do any of them do anything? You get all those slots, i just plopped some random ones in there to keep them from being empty. :\

    Since they increase yield on gathering shards/crystals/clusters and you can't fish those up (1.x had ALC recipes for turning fish into shards and crystals, so FSH could gather them that way, putting them on an even level with Miners and Botanists, but that's gone now, and still wouldn't apply in this case), it's difficult to see how they could possibly do anything.

    If any of the Disciple of the Land cross skills do anything useful for FSH, I can't see it. Even between MIN and BTN, the only useful cross skills appear to be the wards (since each class only gets half the elements you have to cross-class to cover everything). In fact, other than the wards, all the abilities on MIN and BTN are identical--they just only apply to your own class and have different names.

    technically speaking, the detection abilties are not without use, you can set them on any class to find gathering nodes without specifically being on a gathering class- so you can be doing random stuff on a combat class and go "oh, there's some mining nodes" and switch to miner.

    It just scratches my head why fisher has GP at all if 1) it has no abilities that cost GP and 2) the only cross class abilities which cost gp have no effect.
    The only value I can see in it is your GP won't be lost if you switch from one gatherer to another.

    Since they increase yield on gathering shards/crystals/clusters and you can't fish those up (1.x had ALC recipes for turning fish into shards and crystals, so FSH could gather them that way, putting them on an even level with Miners and Botanists, but that's gone now, and still wouldn't apply in this case), it's difficult to see how they could possibly do anything.
    I guess it's worth noting that the tooltip for the buff doesn't even say anything about shards/crystals and just says yield is increased under thunder affinity or something like that. Do any fish have elements associated with them?

    They could have at least done something where using 100, 250, 400 GP lets you increase your chances of getting a specific fish by 10%, 25%, 50% for the next 5 tries. I realize they would have to implement a new fishing interface for when you use this skill but it would hypothetically look very similar to the current miner/botanist interface.

    I would be happy with a 200-400 GP ability that increased Perception by a set amount for a short time. i.e. 400GP for +20 Perception for 10-20 seconds. It would be especially handy when trying to Double Mooch.

    At the least it would add a little bit of interaction instead of turning down the ingame music and fishing for hours while watching Netflix.

    Actually, it doesn't say that. Perhaps it's been changed since you last read it. When I read it a couple of days ago, it read "Increases shard yield" (period) Not even crystals or clusters. Just shards.

    Try using a ward ability while fishing on fisher. The buff message is completely different from when you use it on miner/botanist.

    I am only a level 30 fisher but what annoys me is that there isn't any perception jewelry, the only jewelry I have is GP which is great for botany and mining but does nothing for fishing.

    I would really like some jewelry suitable for fishing, with gathering or perception on it.


    (And for the broken lures to be fixed)
