This is a story from FFXI about being an adventurer, and the joy we all felt when starting a new game and exploring, but somewhere down the line we lost sight of the fun we once had and focused on grinding to the next level.

I blame it on getting older myself and the games following a certain general pattern. My first mmo was SWG and it was nothing like anything I had played before, I was young so there's definitely some nostalgia involved but also it was a world filled with many different playstyles and of course getting a house in your guilds player city made things feel really alive when things were still active. Now games you know what you're gonna get generally and that's leveling up and grinding for gear. That's why i'm looking forward to housing and the golden saucer more than anything in this game.

Seen this before love it all the same. FFXI was my first MMO was great and had some great memories.

That video always felt a little weird to me. I can appreciate the sentiment and how friends are more important than gear, but the WHM would type things out into the LS chat even though she was the only person in it? For months? Seems a little unhealthy, or at least obsessive.

I remember watching this video a long time ago and it's right there is so much fun to be had with a group of people exploring not just doing it for the xp from locating new areas

Awesome! Thank you for sharing that. That has sealed the way I'm playing this game (the way I have been playing too hehe). It is an adventure and you only see things for the first time ONCE, just once and if you blow through it you lose some of the magic (I know it sounds corny but hey, I'm a big dood that rides harleys so cool it ; ) I will keep leveling fishing and will never be in a rush to level anything. I hope to never see the end of this game.
