You are not derailing, this is a good question. The bigger the hit the bigger the cooldown. For example on the last boss of WP if the Tonberry king has 5 knives instead of 3-4 use sentinel instead of rampart. There are also other recommendations within the abilities post.I realize I'm attempting to derail an ongoing discussion, but I have a few questions:
First, how are you all sequencing your defensive cooldowns? For longer fights, I just use them in no particular order, then I keep them on CD. If anyone has an intelligent framework of mind I might adopt for this, I'd be grateful.
Also, in the guide, the macro for Cover accidentally omits quotes, which Pixel should fix please.
You only need quotes around abilities that are more than 1 word. The macros works as it is written, just make sure if you copy and paste replace the apostrophes with double quotes due to the BBCode translation.
I have approximate knowledge of many things.
What you are experiencing is animation delay, you can not do 2 things at once. You should be able to sneak in a spirits within and circle of scorn between the real gcd which is 2.5 seconds. As stated many times the rotations in this thread are optimal for threat generation.Character limit...
More controversially, I'd like to propose an understanding for the comment about two consecutive off-GCD abilities being non-optimal that might negate its out-of-hand dismissal. Abilities that are off-GCD do not immediately activate. If I use Fast Blade, then both CoS and SW, it will delay my utilization of Savage Blade. I don't know if I need to wait for the on-GCD ability's graphic to go, or what the issue is. I'd really like to know if anyone has figured out rules for this stuff. I've played a tank in a number of MMOs at a high caliber, and my typical understanding of an off-GCD ability is I can hit it whenever I please, and if I wanted to I could hit every last off-GCD defensive ability between any two parts of my halone combo. But I can't do that. Maybe I can use two off-GCD's, but I can't use 3, or 4, so there's a point at which one must continue the halone combo and use the off-GCD ability in the next lull. Do you all experience this also?
BTW Allagan pants drop in turn 2. Aaaand i lost acc cap by going to hoplite boots, meh...
Allagan body/legs drop? Pass them off on the other tank in exchange for priroity on next drop, cus they're trash :P Esepcially the legs.
That said, valor boots and allagan leggins isn't *horrible.*
As to why people might want to go BiS... coil drops and myth stones are massive time investments. It would suck to get the point where you are full ilvl90 and look back and realize you could be that much better if you had just shown a litlte more <foresight>.
OP also has a good point. As much as I love my paladin, once I've bought all he BiS items on pld, I want to +1 my Omnilex rather than continue investing such a finite resource in sup-optimal gear.
I completely agree. My coil group is able to clear turn 4 now, so to me there is no reason to buy items with Myth that aren't optimal, when I can hold out for the drop in Coil. There is nothing currently in game that we can't tank without full ilvl90 gear (excluding possibly Turn 5 as this has yet to be beaten), so the gear-sets we are building are just to make current content even easier while gearing up for the next round of content. From the current understanding of dev comments, Coil is 1-5 is going to remain the hardest content in-game till 2.2. This gives us at least 4-5 months to continue gearing our main job from Coil before next tier drops. I don't know about you, but if I'm still running Coil in 4 months and clearing it weekly but haven't gotten every Coil drop for my pld that I want yet... I'm gonna be very pissed.
The second you start adding any additional jobs that you want to gear, you immediately have better ways to spend your Myth tokens than on buying non-optimal gear. Exception: Valor Head and possibly Curtana +1, as they are currently believed to drop from content which has not been cleared yet.
Yeah the only issue you may run into is the social aspect of being stingy or dkp hoarding or things to that effect. Outside of that I'm on turn 5@55% and have terrible gear. I just have curtana+1, holy shield +1, hero ring, and Valor chest. I plan on buying Valor Helm on Monday.I completely agree. Any info about pvp on FFXIV, and the roll of a guardian on it ?
Hmm if 472 is the recommended gear level for Coil, with base stats and DL + Heavy Darksteel I can only hit 436 Accy without slotting accy materia. Even with 2 parry and 2 accuracy, i can only hit 460 accuracy.
Is it worth not equiping DL rings and keeping Hoplite for the accuracy? Changing 6 Determination for 11 accuracy for 3 less vit and 4 less parry?
