FFXIV not acknowledging NVIDIA, forcing onboard gfx.

    New laptop.
    Win 8
    8GB DDR3 1600 RAM
    Intel Core i7 - 4700 MQ @ 2.40GHz
    Geforce GT 750M v320.49 (current)
    1900x1080, GHz laptop screen
    7200 rpm HD

I have been have frame rate issues (sub 20fps in any area, 30 in barren areas). I am even running on normal laptop default setting with res turned down to 1600x900 which i hate. I feel that this rig should be pushing better frames at higher settings.

I noticed the display only lists my onboard graphics card, i do not have the ability to chose my GT 750M

I have made sure the NVIDIA card is the primary card in the Nvidia control panel.

I have tried disabling the onboard in the Device Manager, no change.

I have tried turning off all shadows and ambient occlusion, no change.

Please help! How do i chose my primary card instead of my onboard laptop graphics. Will this increase my fps, what else can i do?

Have you looked in your BIOS yet? There might be something in there for disabling it.

Alternatively, poke around in the graphics properties for a page to assign specific settings for an application. Should be able to create a profile for the XIV executables to make it run on the GPU.

Assuming you mean optimus where your primary card is a intel hd 4000 and your secondary card is your nvidia gpu... Go into your nvidia options and turn on the gpu display activity and turn on contextual menu to run with nvidia processor. right click on the ffxiv launcher and click run with Nvidia gpu... In game it will still say intel hd4000 but if you look at the gpu activity it will say nvidia 1 program in use.

They wouldn't notice it because its not a SE FF XIV issue its a Nvidia Optimus issue. And well Optimus support is special sometimes.

I'm noticing a similar issue with my new Samsung Series 7 with a AMD hd8770m. I know the the 8770m graphics solution isn't exactly top of the line in mobile graphics, but I was expecting a little more than 17fps?

It doesn't use Optimus obviously, as such there isn't the switch to manually change your graphics over to the discrete. I have everything set to max performance, in the Catalyst Control panel & yet I am hovering around 15-20fps. Of course, I went into the Catalyst control panel and set everything to max performance for FFXIV under specific app settings.

If anyone has a similar rig and any suggestions I would love to hear them.

    Thanks
