My experience of the fight is - know the rotation, you won't get hit. I think the plumes are designed to be difficult to avoid, if you're not already moving to dodge them. I was getting hit constantly, then my partner memorised the rotations. Now when we reach the 2nd+ phases, he calls out the attacks for me. I can move in anticipation - I don't get hit. I still haven't beat the fight, however - it's tough, and there's just no room for error. My smaller static plan on using some sort of voip so someone can call out the attacks and help everyone avoid.

Of course this does seem silly in a game which doesn't inherently have voip, therefore requiring you to either get access to a service, or have your entire party memorise the rotations. My other tactic was to suggest that someone who knows it has macros said up to announce the moves in PT chat, but no-ones took me up on this yet. (I think the tank should have this duty - they don't do much in this fight :P)
