Actually yes its their fault.

When they are designing encounters they should set a level a latency where the game is still playable. If you take the Wow team, they are designing encounters to be playable up to 500 ms latency and heroic encounters are still challenging ( and playable for me).

All the ISP in my country won't get me better than 300 ms, so i guess with their design philosophy in mind, it means i can't play this game ?

I totally agree with you. When they released the game, they NEVER mentioned it would be only for "canada, and north parts of United States". They even got european worlds.. meaning that they actually encourage and european community to play. Also the american servers, are called by them "North American" which means they should be able to provide the same level of quality, for canada, united states (even the south part) and mexico.
Otherwise, they should just state that they are "unable to bring the game to all Europe, and North America , and they will only provide service to certain parts of the world" and actually stop advertising the game as something we all should be able to play with the same amount of quality.

Personally I have to add that I do not generally have any problems with lag. I'm on a 3mbps connection in the middle of nowhere in northern bc and about 600km from the nearest city, just to put things in perspective. The only time I ever experienced problems was when my modem took a crap and wasn't working as efficiently as it should be. If lag is your only reason for not playing this game then I do suggest that you give the game another shot since the current lag is only effecting a handful of people, not everybody, and they did increase the rate at which movement is polled from 0.3 seconds to 0.1 seconds for the majority of endgame content.

On another note, from what I read some ISPs are throttling this game because the traffic appears to be P2P to them so if your ISP typically throttles things like torrents or other P2P things then that may be your issue. Highly doubtful that you would be able to get your ISP to do anything in this case, aside from point fingers at SE.

I must say that when I hear about FFXIV my main concern was lag since I'm from Europe (Spain to be precise) but from what I understand the servers aren't in Europe. my connection isn't that good either (it's not that bad but it's far from being what it should be) and on top of that my wife also plays MMO (for some reason I don't understand she prefers WoW and GW2) so I have to share the bandwidth.

to my surprise when I connected for the first time I saw that I got a "good" connection to the server and I had not even a hint of lag problems.

let me clarify something that people tend to confuse. one thing is the lag you have (how long does it take the info to travel between the server and your pc) and another is how good your graphic card performs (the Frames per second)

both problems can cause the game to look poorly on a youtube video.
if you want to know what's the problem that causes a poor game experience the first thing is try the graphic card with the benchmark. then test your internet connection to other places (webs, p2p software, ftp, or even if you can try it with other games) to see if it's your general internet connection or just when you connect to the FFXIV servers.

Whats killing me is the lack of an statement about this issue by S.E.
I know they know... because afterall we got the "try zooming out" by Yoshida, and the "we are going to check your position every .1, instead of .3" from the updates...

But at least I would feel comfortable if they release an statement about it , and even if its a "Hey guys, we did everything we could, we are sorry if you are suffering this, but we cant fix it since, its not in our hands" .... at least I would know as a customer what to expect and I would be able to make a wise decition (either, stick by the game, and do content that is being dumb down, try to a vpn, or even just leave the game, and stop posting about this).

I still dont know why if small bussines, are able to even open West Coast servers, and East Coast servers, why S.E. hasnt been able to...

And well, im a 1.0 player... so in a way I feel betrayed by SE, since I stick up with the game, when they were in a bad spot... and as a customer I dont feel the same support with this horrible issue.

I also want to to add that I have been playing mmos my whole life... and so far this is the only game I get this horrible lag...

The last statement was that they changed PR from 0.3 to 0.1, as that's what they can do in regards to this even though it's an issue not on their end. The reason people keep bringing up other MMOs but discredit when someone brings up FFXI is because other MMOs are not going through the same routing to their datacenters. Many times they host their own. With FFXI, another MMO by Square Enix, they don't suffer the same problems where people can barely play the game because there's no routing issues to where XI is hosted.

It's confirmed it's an issue with Level3 and for some, Tata. SE can set up servers in every damn city all over the world and there will still be problems if a service they use is experiencing issues.

I too agree that the game suffers from this lag. I run the game with usually 80 fps wherever I go on highest settings, so it's not my frame rate dropping or anything like that. But yes, sometimes, like in titan hm, the aoe will show, I will be clearly super far away from it, and bam, off I go even though I'm half way across the whole fighting zone. It makes me look really bad to other players who probably don't believe when I say I was nowhere near that attack, it should be fixed 100% to avoid team wipes on hard endgame mechanics., for sure for things like titan extreme etc. It's no fun hoping if or not you will be hit, you should know by just being in or out of the aoe pattern.

Most of the time the game runs flawless, but these hiccups occur and usually they cause a wipe for most which is quite annoying, because you generally need your whole team doing 100% on the hardest things. It's even more annoying to die in a game when it is not your fault. Imagine if the Nintendo lagged when you played Mario and you kept dying at a goomba or something, online games need to get this down 100% to be a great game.

I really enjoyed the titan fight story and hard mode. I am a newer player so I will say right away that I am not very skilled at this game. While doing my relic quest I threw myself at titan hm several times for practice, I actually made an effort to improve and I did.

I got my relic with my fc's help and only died three times. Later I join the fc in helping another member get their relic by running titan hm with several of the same people from my relic run...complete and total failure. I find it odd to see the experienced players helping all of a sudden 'suck' at dodging. Both healers were taken out on several occasions to attacks that 'weren't there' which is a death sentence to the group and everyone reported the same issues. Should we be asking for a nerf if latency isn't resolved?

Now that you mention it... instead of nerfing the content... it would be a solution , if they "increase the time of the casting, for some mechanics" Like in Titan HM, increase the casting time for aoes. Like for 1 second.

Im sure they can raise the difficult bar in other ways, like HP, or damage too keep the same "challenge level". But if they do this, then if you have good reflexes, even if you lag, you would be able to Dodge.. while ppl with no lag, they just get a Little bit more of time to Dodge.

I'm positive its been mentioned before, but I know many people dont wanna read all 174 pages. So while this thread is up I'll come out and say:

Leatrix Latency Fix. Its done worlds for me as an Aussie player. I moved from the US and things feel nearly as responsive as when I lived in california. I cannot stress this fix enough for people who can't dodge weights at titan or etc.

IT WILL CHANGE YOUR (ingame) LIFE!!!!
