    Game client ignores accessibility options

FFXIV, in its current build, ignores windows accessibility options such as sticky keys triggering game options, keyboard shortcuts, ect. This severely limits gameplay for users like myself with physical limitations. I realize accessibility isn't a major concern but is there any way this option could be addressed?

I'd also love a bit more accessibility, as well, in regards to ingame talks for the deaf. I know most of the major chat is via text boxes, but I can't help but feel that there are some chats that I'm missing from interacting with NPCs...

There is a plus side though. You don't have to find out you've been mispronouncing Ifrit for 10 years like I did.

It was 8 years before FFXI got more accessable for me, so I wouldn't get your hopes up for XIV. We're just not a large enough portion of the market to justify the cost I suppose.

My issue is a visual impairment, which is actually much better addressed in XIV. I'm guessing from your post your issues are more of a physical mobility problem. I'm not sure if it'll be any help, but have you looked into the keybind configurations? They seem to offer some solutions depending on your impairment. Either way I'm sure we'll get by like we always do until things change. Exceeding your limitations is a part of being physically impaired.

Oh I so remember the trials of FFXI. FFX|V is better off from where XI was, it would be better if the client didn't suppress the OS accessibility features. I'll make do, like always, and continue to hope. And yes, I've redone my bindings. It does help but only so much.

I don't have accessibility issues, but I find it much easier to play on my laptop with a USB controller, so I only use the keyboard for chat and the odd ability I don't have on the current Xbar--put them on a macro bar that stays up just above the xbar so I can punch them when needed. I have issues with touchpads in general when it comes to gaming, and using a mouse with a laptop seems to defeat the portability angle of a laptop--wish more people would use the Trackpoint stick things).

For me, it was well worth the $20 investment at Gamestop (have one like it at Radio Shack too). Might be something for some of you guys to consider if you can use a PS2 controller comfortably and efficiently.

They aren't very fancy, but they work. Simple USB controllers with a PS2 knockoff design, but it works well for XIV once you calibrate it in the config screen (may not have some of the buttons assigned properly at first).

Best Buy carries one by Logitech very similar for about $25. Other brands abound as well at other locations in the $20-$30 ranges.

Note: Win8 may not appear to install some of these correctly at first, but you typically won't need to go digging for custom drivers (some don't have anything listed for Win8, just up through Win7). If you unplug it, wait a bit, then plug it back in, it should then register it as a Generic USB Controller and pick up all the buttons properly after that. Some have had to do a reboot and then plug it in, but that has been rare.
