Yeah, because aMerica is the best right? What's wrong with British accents? Personally I like them.

Because the world wants to hear people talking proper like tis why! Not everything revolves round Merica!

This.I wondered this myself. Not that it bothers me as i'm originally from the UK.
All the dialogue is inspired (I guess you can call it that) by how people used to talk back in the day in London. More specifically hints of the "Cockney" dialect peek through in almost every conversation with an NPC. It's just done in a way that I actually find funny. Almost in the same way when an American would do a poor English accent, we just know and find it funny.
Seems written and voiced in Cockney and also Elizabethan (I think?). I think the reason for this is maybe because of Tolkien and Lewis, since they were like the originators of what we know as fantasy. They both wrote in those styles. Seems the most fitting.
Having various British accents isn't a new thing. Almost every fantasy game is like that. I prefer NPCs with a cockney accent as opposed to a heavy southern accent and being called "boy" and I sure as hell wouldn't want to hear NPCs with a Boston accent or Midwestern... don'cha know? Do not want Americanized voice acting (at least not with regional accents).
French is the best voicover option anyway.

You can change the voices to Japanese. System configuration, I believe, the last part where you select how to save screenshots (jpg or png) is where you also select the voices.

Why wouldn't they want to hear the angelic voices of the God chosen rulers of the earth voice their game?
Wish they would hire British voice actors to do British accents T.T
The written dialogue is VERY British through and through, London accents, especially cockney abound in some of the cities. While the elves have a kind've faux-Queens English, it's no surprise therefore that the voice actors are also reading the said lines, in British accents. having an American read off lines written with cockney terminology would just sound plain wrong
Of course the accents arn't very convincing either in most cases. But American accents would just make things worse
I thought it was only the Sharlayans that did...
You can choose any language for the voice acting. however, I don't really see the problem with the english voices. Palpawhatshisnamethelalafell is really annoying but everyone else sounds fine. So what if they use ye olde english talk? SE does this with every final fantasy.
