Spam flash till about half mp mark then fast > riot > flash on primary target you should be fine at that point. Once you drop a mob or two fast riot your mp back and switch to rage combo.

If he out gears you significantly then not a lot you can do about it. They are going to have to hold back but assuming relative gear scores you should be fine. Most groups are going to want to cleave mob packs down to speed up clears. They just got to give you a few secs to build up hate.
I run with my LS leader who is a "geared" SMN (full DL with garuda book) and have np holding the aggro from him even when he AEs his DoTs. Its all about target swapping for combos while throwing in flashes.
The issue with people who play summoners is simple. The ones who role it because it's a pet class doesn't care about controlling their pets and fail to realize that there are two attack modes for the pet. Sic and Obey. My main is a SMN and I've ran the dungeons with both WAR and PLD and when I'm in a group I never run with my pet on Sic. I always have it under Obey so I can tell it when to use it's skills and I also only ever throw out bane once I'm sure the tank has complete threat on the mobs.
Not all summoners are bad. Just the ones who don't care. Don't judge the many cause of the few. A bad SMN is like a bad tank or a bad healer. They just happen.
I am fine with the AOE threat of the paladin, My only single issue is the tab targeting in the middle of a fight targeting mobs that are not in combat in the distance.
Having to click target a single mob in front of me instead of tab scrolling through 10 mobs that I am not fighting is not cool.
The geared smn I run with: Yenn Sylph (Coeurl)
The geared blm I run with: Jazeff Malkova (Coeurl)
Triple group pull, flash until out of mana, start rioting on last mob then pull 3 more groups. 17 minute runs.

Aim your camera at the ground and zoom until only active combatants are in view.I am fine with the AOE threat of the paladin, My only single issue is the tab targeting in the middle of a fight targeting mobs that are not in combat in the distance.

Don't forget about the mini screen that pops up showing w/ the color system of threat. This will make it much easier to see what mobs should take priority for tab targeting.
As a slightly geared 50 summoner. I have to say that I have never pulled agro from a tank in an instance that I know of. It could be they were amazing tanks and I didn't even notice them taking hate back. This is including using bane and shadowflare.
My general starting rotation is Shadowflare > Miasma > Bio 2 > Bio > Bane > Fester > Thunder > Ruin > Ruin 2.
After that I just re-apply dots as needed and focus on the tanks main target, pop fester when it available and always pop Aetherflow. Marking targets is also something that I see a lot of tanks not doing. I know you can click the tank and see what they are attacking but that isn't fool proof.
I feel that a lot of summoners don't watch their hate because they are expecting the tank to control the fight all the time, and spam their spells when they don't need to. If I have the time to I will just sit back and watch my dots tick while casting Ruin and Ruin 2 which usually gets my hate down enough for the tank to keep it.
