OP, you get darklight gear from tomes of philosophy and your AF2 from tomes of mythology. Yes the mythology tomes are only available in AK ATM but philosophy are also available from castrum, praetorium, wanderers palace, aurum vale, dhezemael darkhold and I can't remember where else, as I'm at work ATM...

So basically I needn't grind AK to have access to the next tier of content (e.g. Coil of Bahamut)?

You don't -have to- but it is still the most efficient way of doing so.

Starting with Stone Vigil every dungeon drops Philosopher Tomes. The problem? The amount you get from non-Amdapor dungeons is far less. For example Wanderer's Palace (The other level 50 dungeon) only drops 50. Amdapor drops 80 (AND 40 Mythology). The dungeons lower than Wanderer's Palace drop even less, the lower level the dungeon the lower the tome amount.

What I personally think (please note: think) is that the difference in tome quantity plus the 40 Myth warrants the complete disregard for any dungeon other than AK. Which subsequently shrinks the available (viable) content at 50.

Unless they need the weapon drop (or Relic weapon component) from Wanderer's Palace, no I would say that close to no static groups would run anything except Amdapor UNLESS they are running Castrum (8 man story dungeon) which drops 100 philosopher tomes but no mythology tomes. The reason is in a static group you can get 100x8 philosopher tomes in a very easy (And relatively quick 25-35 minutes approx) dungeon as opposed to Amdapor which is both a 4 man and longer now that speed runs have been fixed.
