World Transfer Service

Im not sure if this is the correct place to discuss this, but here goes.

I really wish we had clearer information on World Transfers. The more speculation there is on the matter, the clearer the facts need to be from SE.

At the moment, the only OFFICIAL information i can find anywhere comes from the Mog Station account services page, stating that a World Transfer service is planned to be implemented mid-September, with a note to say we should keep an eye out on the Lodestone for further news and announcements. So far no announcements have been made.

So the questions are:
- Will the world transfer service be free or will it be a paid service? If it is a paid service, how much will it cost?
- Will the world transfer service allow you to transfer all your characters or just one?
- Are there any restrictions beyond individual server capacity which will limit where and when a character can transfer?

One of the biggest speculations is:
- 1.0 Characters will be unable to transfer to another non-Legacy server for six months. Is this true or false? How have people developed this speculation? Is there a source that suggests this may be the case?
- If this speculation turns out to be true, how is this justified?

I got involved with ARR during Beta 4, long after the opportunity to transfer my 1.0 character had come and gone. For some stupid reason, although I am a registered EU player, my character was dumped on a JAP server. My friends were unable to create their characters on my server due to population limitation, so rolled on the NA/EU Cactur server instead, expecting me to be able to transfer when the option became available.

Most of my friends who started fresh characters are now, four weeks later, higher levels than I am, because I have a lot less free time to play than they do. This makes the time I have already put into my 1.0 character all the more important to me. I have no advantage over a freshly created character, and neither does any other 1.0, since there are many Lvl50’s now. It doesn’t make sense to deny 1.0 characters the same opportunity to world transfer.

I just want to know as early as possible. If I absolutely HAVE to abandon my 1.0 character, which would be a real shame, then I dont want to wait another couple of weeks to find that out.

EDIT: Ok I found a Letter from the Producer which has answered one or two questions.

- World transfers will be a paid service
- Restrictions on movement will only be related to individual world population availability
- The amount of Gil which can be transfered will be limited to protect against dramatic economic fluctuation

This has eased my mind somewhat, because it is another official source which gives no mention to a lock on movement of 1.0 characters to non-legacy servers.

I don't see why they wouldn't let 1.0 people move to other servers with the same restrictions as everyone else.

Around June/July all 1.0 players got emailed with the option for a free world transfer and we could have picked non-legacy servers then if we wanted to, so I can't see why they'll restrict them now.

What POSSIBLE reason could be given for the decision not to let 1.0 characters move to non-legacy servers? The split is now largely redundant, as there are many multiple-Lv50-job levelled characters on non-legacy servers.

I for one am a 1.0 player stuck on a legacy server. My character has much lower job levels than most of my friends who are on a non-legacy server. This decision just boggles my mind.

Please could someone shed some light for me on why this decision has been made? It is extremely disappointing, because it means I STILL cannot play with my friends. It is unfair to ask a whole LS to world transfer to a legacy server just for me, so I’m left with only one option to go to them. At the moment I’m totally stuck on my own.

EDIT: The only good thing is that I'll finally be able to get off the random JAP Aegis server that SE dumped my character on for some reason. I'm an EU player dumbasses! Oh, and whats with the bullcrap about Aegis not being a highly populated world? On a Saturday or Sunday morning I sometimes STILL have to wait 2+ hours to log on because the world is full.

EDIT: Wait... won't moving from Aegis to an EU/NA server use up my free transfer? So... i'm gonna be forced to pay for my move to the server with my friends on it when they finally allow unrestricted movement?

It wasn't public but it was kinda known. Some forums were already talking about it too.
There was a discussion on the beta forum about legacy transfers and a mod closed the thread replying:

"Although the World Transfer Service will begin shortly after release. Details regarding this service, including when Version 1.0 characters will be allowed to transfer from Legacy Worlds have yet to be finalized.

Therefore, I'm going to close this thread before assumptions, theory crafting, and unnecessary arguments run rampant.

We ask that you please be patient and wait for further details on how this service will work."

Yoshida is the man making the rules, like them or not.

And level 50 isn't the issue, it's the vast wealth many V1 players have in comparison with new starters, right now it's mostly RMT and gil buyers on the new servers that have cash reserves anywhere near those of the average V1-er, let alone those who were mega-rich in V1.

I'm in the same boat, I wanted to transfer from Hyperion to the new server I have found a happy home on but I can't, so the resources and cash I worked for in V1 is useless. It sucks, I wanted to help my new FC buy a house once that content comes, but I understand why SE aren't allowing it.

- Legacy players had their gil reserves reduced by 9/10ths. My 1.0 character had close to 2mil, which was reduced to a paultry 200k.
- There is a limit to the amount of gil you can transfer with a character using the world transfer service.

I feel both of those measures would largely mitigate the aformentioned concerns regarding economic balance. Besides, the people that do still have vast wealth from 1.0 are a very small percentage of players. As I have said, all my friends are new players, on a new server. They all have vasty greater wealth, levels, and better gear than I do. I represent a significant number of people in the same situation, including it seams, yourself.

It would just be nice to have an explenation as to why we cannot move like everyone else, especialy given that non 1.0 characters can move to legacy servers. At the moment we can only assume it's an economic balance issue.

BTW Zohno... I appreciate your response, but posting a link that is no longer available isnt very helpful. I knew it had been speculated one way or another, and my point was simply that nobody since the opening launch of the game could provide an official source on the matter.

Free transfer is just for 5 days after the service activation, so you will have to pay anyway in the future even if you don't use it.

That's what im saying. I'm not allowed to transfer during the free period to the server i wish to go to. They will only open up that option to me long after they start charging

Looking forward to the service starting up. I want to move my toons to Goblin with some people i know from twitchtv inviting me to join their FC . I could start a ton on the server but with the little time i have as it is to enjoy this game i don't feel like rerolling. and TBH i don't have any issues paying a bit in the future for it. Honestly how many times is a person going to move toons anyways AND people have to get it out of their heads its a copy/paste job. Moving things to another server isn't utterly complex but isn't as simple as cutting this file here and pasting it over there..there is much more that has to take place and it has to be done right the first time.
