[Dev] Go Live Billing Options

To SE:

With the recent uproar in the gaming community regarding the most heinous act of Hacking the Sony PSN for users CC info, I would like to bring the issue of CC security and billing options to the forefront of what SE is doing or intends to do in the future with FFXIV.

Currently we only have 2 options available to use we can either Buy Crystia, or use a Click and Buy Account from some company most of us here in the USA have never heard of. Who is Click and Buy and why are we forced to use them, why does SE not have other options more secure that many feel are a much better practice.

With the sheer size of SE why can they not accept a CC or Debit Card directly, why the need to go through a 3rd party to accept a CC/Debit Card? Can SE Not afford the $0.35 per transaction fee that Visa or MasterCard would charge just to have the service? I find this hard to believe considering most companies can easily do this especially one of SE size and magnitude, using Verisign to verify all is ok.

The other option would be Game Cards sold at major retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Meijer etc. Other Major MMO have this option why not SE for FFXIV and or FFXI. I understand that SE MMO may not be as large as other MMO and that POL may have issues with providing that service for FFXI. But I feel that should you allow this it will be easier for more to have access to the game.

I am sure others are also very uneasy regarding said payment options and would like more secure options that we are also more comfortable with. So if we could get a MOD to comment on this situation it would be vastly appreciated. I understand the game is not "Live" for billing yet however this is something that should be addressed before PS3 release and we begin the billing stages.

SE most likely have to pay fees to click n buy for using their product, so the visa fee has nothing to do with it, just like how they have to pay paypal as well.

SE did handle CC info, in XI, but it wasnt a very good system, its much easier to outsource to a company that is dedicated to just CC info.

Also the PSN incident has not much to do with it, the people who obtained the personal info did it to prove Sony suck, and they wont do anything with the information, they're on the side of the customer since Sony has no customer relationship. Also the CC was encrypted.

You can already use prepaid cards through paypal, so I dont know why you are suggesting a feature that already exists.

And where is the Paypal option??? I Login I have 2 options Crystia which is a retarded system to begin with, and Click and Buy that is it. I would rather walk down to Best Buy, Buy a game card or get one for a holiday period and just attach it to my account when the money wears off I buy another. Its Cheap effective and easy to track. What you are suggesting is another loop I have to go through just to play a game, Se can have these extra options at minimal overhead, probably far cheaper then what they are paying Click and Buy, I don't see what the issue is with the suggestion.

I bought an "Ultimate Game Card" from my local 7/11 store (also sold at Best Buy, Game Stop, Wal-Mart, etc.). I was able to use that card to buy Crysta (which is still sitting in my account).

While certainly not as easy as just entering a Credit Card, it is much safer from Identity Theft and I appreciate that. The instructions for buying Crysta using this method left alot to be desired and I pretty much had to figure it out myself, but it did work. The process just needs to be streamlined and explained better.

I would suggest that SE use something like paypal, I know in the UK we can buy crysta using paypal but I would rather pay for my subscription directly without the need to buy crysta.

From what I remember the US don't get the option to use Paypal (perhaps they have changed it since launch though)

Exactly in a global market we should all have the same options, US does not have the same options as UK or Japan.

I rather not deal with Click and Buy. Why can't it be like Playonline where you pay by credit card?
