That excuse didn't fly when the mass-Salvage ban occurred in FFXI. (For those who didn't know: there was an alliance-size event known as Salvage. It required 18 people. At the end of Salvage, you got a chest full of items. If you split up your alliance to three separate parties, the items in the chest would multiply -- thus allowing each party to get the items that were meant for the full alliance. So, there were now two more 'copies' of the original items.) When this exploit was discovered, SE mass-banned hundreds of exploiters with absolutely no mercy. I knew one person who wasn't even aware that the party they were in used this exploit until he was banned for it. I feel particularly bad for the people who were ignorant and were banned anyway.

With the Titan exploit... Well, I don't see them mass-banning people this early in the game... and even if they did, I don't think it would be as traceable as Salvage where the server 'knew' how many items it had given out to people. Winning Titan gives you the same amount of items whether or not you are using the 'glitch' exploit, so I'm not sure if SE could even track it if they wanted to. Perhaps they would know based on how long you were in the fight (3 minutes seems super short even for the best-geared and most skilled group)... but how could they 'prove' it?
