Square Enix Token Mobile App: Is It Reliable?

So I have a question about the mobile app version of the Security Token. Currently I'm using a physical Security Token that's about five years old give or take a year. It hasn't shown signs of dying anytime soon but I figure since the mobile one is out maybe I should just deactivate it before it does die. But I'm not sure how good or trustworthy the app is. Is it reliable? Recommended? Won't have a software bug-out and stop working/reset the data?

Currently I also have an unused Security Token from the 1.0 FFXIV Collector's Edition still in its box I could use but since the mobile app is out I'm wondering if that may be better. I've never once lost my current token and have a place I even hang it on my wall near my PC so risk of losing it isn't why I no longer want to use one. Any info/stories/feedback about the mobile app would be greatly appreciated!

You got the physical one, keep using it. It's the better of the two. I never really trust digital authenticator. :/

I have the smart phone token and haven't had any issues with it. Just make sure that when you apply it to your account, you write down the emergency code. If your phone is lost or destroyed, you need that code to deactivate the token.

I highly recommend the smart phone token.

Thanks, but I'm still curious as to why though. What's wrong with the mobile version? I have the Google Authenticator app on my phone (Which I really should set up to use again...) for my Gmail account so I'm just curious as to the reasoning not to use the mobile version of the Security Token.

i haven't had an issue with it...im not sure how it could bug out anyway, only internet dropping out and if your phone has issues is the only ones i can think of.

Forgive me for being dumb, but how the heck do I use that code? Copy paste it into the one time box if my phone goes haywire?

I use the mobile one as well, havnt had no issues just as lucke said though, write down the code for emergency removal incase your phone is lost or stolen and your golden, plus if you go out and want to post on the forums or what have you... Always have your authenticator on you. And as the case for our generations now... How often are we without our phone? Allows you to log in anywhere you go without having to carry anything extra on your keys and look silly with a authenticator on your keys lol

I was wondering about that, except one person's reply (I can't remember where, I think it was the hacking thread.) mentioned they had the SE Security Token App on their phone. Somehow it glitched out and reset itself.

Software can glitch and be rendered unusuable (It's a bitch when it happens...), can be hacked (It's very unlikely to happen, but can happen) - The physical one is near impossible to hack, usually is faster to change codes and lasts a long time (up to 10 years if you got a GOOD ONE.) In the end, the decision remains yours whether you want to change it or not. In your place, I'd keep the physical one.
