what is the difference between pushing spacebar every 20 minutes and entering a 5 letter captcha every 30 minutes. there are afk people who will get booted and there are bots that will get booted. what part of this are you not understanding. It's not about botting. It kicks people who are just standing around AFK for 30 minutes doing nothing. sure, CAPTCHA would also fix that, but also pointlessly annoy people who ARE at the keyboard pushing buttons anyways, and are not AFK. If you ARE, in fact, just sitting there at your keyboard staring at your screen, doing nothing, just push spacebar every 20-25 minutes.
Myself and others were able to create brand new characters on once overpopulated servers, so that issue has been fixed. Try it yourself, because it worked fine this morning. And the issue of people not able to log into the game because "server is full" was addressed days ago. The only lag I've ever experienced was due to too many people doing FATES in one small area, not too many people afk...
The auto-timeout feature should be optional, something that you tick on and off in your system configuration, because honestly there is no real reason for it. All the reasons it was needed at the beginning of the game have been addressed.
THe plans are not to update it to capcha but a simple 3 digit code version.
useless bodies around erozea just take up resources, and unneeded loading on others GPU's
TBH this isnt a f2p game. P2P comes with standards and giving up room on a server for someone else is not one of them. SE sorted it out but neither side was wrong.
Much like Murphy's Law where "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong".. well..
Introducing the Internet's Law of Anonymous Consumerism, which states "Anything that can be whined about, will be whined about."
Digital sales have not yet resumed and there are still some character creation restrictions being enforced on select realms. Once the game becomes readily available again to everyone world wide, we will undoubtedly see another influx of players. Not to mention the new players that the sale of the PS4 in November will bring in. I reckon that this AFK timer is a counter measure to these things before they have the chance to cause any further issues in the near future.
SE has increased their data centers and server capacities while addressing server stability. Twice. And I'm sure both times were not cheap. You are correct that there will be players who leave the game for "greener pastures". Which means that they need to plan their server upgrades around a long term agenda rather than bold spur of the moment action. An AFK timer is simply more cost efficient than expanding their data centers beyond what they foresee them needing over the long term. It's the same reason they haven't simply opened 20 new servers to address character creation issues. It would be counter productive. If this is why you are for the AFK timer, than you should be much more concerned about SE's refusal to actually invest in a larger server capacity. Either way, people will quit once the P2P kicks into gear and the issue of full servers will no longer be a perminant problem. It should be an optional feature.
LOL. i requested AFK kick and i was able to play 70% of the time i tryed to log in with less then 1h trying.
as of missing chat from LS/FC deal with it. you miss about 50-100% of what your friends says in a day you can live with 1h from your game.
its only stupid and selfish people who tink like this.
It seems like someone wasnt thinking this through very well...If they were really targeting the people who leave it on while at work or overnight, an auto-logoff timer of 1-2 hours or more would have been more appropriate and not caused all these forum wars. The minute I saw 30minutes I knew it was gonna create allot of issues in the community.
I did not stay logged in, even though I had thought about it. I decided I did not want to put extra wear and tear on my PS3, so I would logout.
Then: "Why are they focusing on improving the servers when all they have to do is put in an AFK timer?! SE IS DUMB PEOPLE!"
Now: "Why are SE putting in an AFK timer?! The server fix worked! SE IS DUMB PEOPLE!"
