lol nope, im not picky enough to ask for them to go through the trouble of making whole new races, but according to Tanaka, all the labor is done for male miqote and female roegadyn (dont know about female highlander), so why not?
The possibility that some work was done doesn't mean that it was satisfactory. If they have been canned, there's a reason.
And it's not hard at all to envision such reason.

I'm feeling the same way Cairdeas is. As a female player I sorely miss the stronger female Elvaan from FFXI. Not only did they look like they could kick your butt while retaining their femininity, but there was an air of shrewdness about them. I realize that the cute wafe-like style is popular among men and women, boys and girls alike...but for those who enjoy stronger presentations of the fantasy theme, where is our good time? I've recreated my character a dozen times and would readily play a female Highlander (they are the closest thing to "ethnic" and I am black, so that could be a fun option) or a female Roegadyn. It is true that when a player can not connect to their character, they simply set the controller down or back away from the computer desk.
As for male Miqo'te, who could complain about that? Some variance on the basic human form would be a welcome sight in male character options. Where Roegadyn had more animal traits in their Galka form, they now look like exaggerated versions of their Hyur counterparts. Sin City, anyone? http://media.moddb.com/images/member...38/sincity.jpg
It's always fun to play the juxtaposition between strong males and small but determined females, especially in the world of Final Fantasy where size doesn't actually seem to equate to strength; But at the bare minimum I want my character to appear competent.

This is disappointing. Another reminder that the FFXIV team were nowhere near finishing this game when they decided to bring it out, it makes me wonder how they felt this sort of response would be accepted by the FFXIV community. The designs have been completed but could not be implemented? I'm no developer but I would've thought that if the designs were done implementation wouldn't have taken that long - but maybe I'm wrong."Actually all of the design is ready, so we were planning to implement them into the game, however during the development process we had to put priority with what to put into the game, and due to the man power issue we had to give up implementing them into the beginning of the game. You will see them as an NPC, but it is not a race that you can choose at the beginning. We’ll see how it goes in the future, it might be a possibility. We are still looking into it."
This being said I am completely happy with the level of customisation with these races that we were given. I feel that a lot of work has been put into making the races look different and since I have been playing the game I haven't yet come across another character that looked like mine, or any others for that matter - it makes a difference from FFXI when all I could see was the spikey red/white haired Mithras.
While I am happy with my character and wouldn't want to change them for a male Miqo'te, female Roegadyn or female Highlander I would like to see them out and about in Eorzea. I can understand that some people aren't happy with the choices that were given and if it were me I wouldn't be able to enjoy the game half as much if I had a character I didn't like the look of. If these characters have already been designed then why not spend a couple of weeks putting them into the game. To be honest I'd be okay with it if they kept the servers closed until they fixed all of FFXIV's problems, if that made the process any quicker...
Considering that at the moment we have 15 race/gender combinations (even without counting the whole rest of the customization options), those that can't find a satisfying option between all of them must be VERY picky. While I am happy with my character and wouldn't want to change them for a male Miqo'te, female Roegadyn or female Highlander I would like to see them out and about in Eorzea. And often the idea of barring everyone out of the game longer to allow man'quote and female roegadyns (that would be used by just a few superpicky individuals) is... umh. I don't think i can find a definition for that.

Red XIII is a good starting point for Miqo'te males who are not effeminate. http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery...7-redxiii.htmlI partially agree with this idea.
First off, having male mi'qote are a BAD IDEA. You'd be stealing the gay race from elezens. Not to mention, it would gay up the whole server something fierce. I'm talking pride parades, rainbow-colored trees, etc., And no, I'm not against homosexuality at all, I just don't think it fits for this type of setting.
And don't go telling me I'm wrong, because you know, deep down, that I'm right.
The only reason anyone would play a male cat person like the ones in this game is because they're a flaming homosexual who wants to look "CUTE" for all his friends. My post might get deleted because some sensitive person will contact the mods and claim it's discriminatory, but I just want a game without rainbow trees and bass-beat dance bars. Is that wrong of me to ask? Really?
Now on the topic of female Roegadyn, YEEEAH! I am all for this, baby! Nuff said. Sign me up. I'm even all for female highlanders. As long as they're not manly women, and still curvy, I'm in favor of a system that is awesome like this.
(also I'm in favor of html tags, ffs!)
I can envision a male Miqo'te who commands a sense of power, can't you? I'm sure that Square Enix can do something with concepts such as:

or this:

or this:

And I'm sure they could execute it without making it contrived or Disney-esque. When in doubt that a male form of ANYTHING exists, we can always cite nature. Apparently is is conceivable that felines appear both masculine and graceful. Who would have thought?

Maybe, I guess because I'm quite a picky person I empathise with them
I think you misunderstood, I don't think FFXIV's problems start and end with races - also I meant it as just a flippant comment, I don't really have an issue with servers opening back up before things are sorted, I know that we have all bought this game and should be able to enjoy it even if others don't.

Picky as in desiring any sort of race/gender combination that appeared even vaguely ethnic? I'm not asking for afro-central here...but I'd like to be able to make a female character that isn't built like a noodle and whose hair doesn't fall neatly back behind a head band. And I'm not talking about pasting on a darker skin tone, either.Considering that at the moment we have 15 race/gender combinations (even without counting the whole rest of the customization options), those that can't find a satisfying option between all of them must be VERY picky.

I understand some people being satisfied with the options presented. They're pretty cool after all, and within a limited spectrum there are quite a variety of options. However, singling out those who want a few changes as "picky" is a little single-minded. The Final Fantasy world has always been captivating, it's hard for me to want to explore it when my character options are: midget, starlet, androgynous elf, or brawny male-model.

You may be right, but I hardly think that the handful of people posting in this thread can vouch for the majority. This could also be remedied by a couple variations on the male Miqo'te facial features (which I noticed also change the bodies of your character somewhat).
