    Inventory Management - Hell Edition

That is my new name for this game. This isn't going to be a long thread at all but I am a little bit surprised there aren't more threads out there like this. This game gives you a decent inventory space and some decent retainer spaces, but, After getting a few DoL and DoH to 10-16 range, I have no room for anything. My two retainers are filled with low level crafting supplies that I am not willing to sell until I KNOW I never need them again, some gear for aesthetics for the day that that matters (just a few pieces), and a ton of varied materia types. This is one of those games where they throw in 20 different versions of each rank of material and that would be fine... if I could hold it all.

I'm slightly OCD and I need a better way to manage my inventories. Oh, and a sort option or some addon for sorting would be great. And not the crappy auto-sort option that doesn't do a whole lot.

Edit: I just sorted my inventories so that one retainer is specifically for mats and the other for other stuff. The mat retainer held everything... except 1 HQ rubber!!!!! I'M LOSING MY MIND! lol

Edit v2.0: Square Enix... for the love of god... FIX THIS POST COUNT CRAP! Nobody will probably read this that has already read this page but I'm limited so here is my shortened response from my previous attempt at posting this.

Each craft has about 5 items for each level range. Multiply that by 2 for HQ items. Then take into account that you need to raise all crafts at the same time because they are all dependent on each other. Selling any mat nets you about 1 gil at a vendor or a loss at the MB and I will probably need it again later and I probably wont' be able to afford it then and I will not farm for mats that I already had. The retainers also feel bad... like why do I need to hear them greet me? They are literally just pack mules... I don't want them to waste my time with messages that I can't hit ESC to clear. It is a small thing but my armoury chest is full of crafting gear all of the time because I don't want to access the retainer inventory to get out the [crafting item] to craft 1 [mat] to continue with my current goal. I know this was the worst paragraph of all time but I really didn't want to re-write what I had already written. Blame stringent forum rules.

Not to be a jerk but, this is very much a YOU problem. stop hording, set some goals. If a Mat doesn't help your long term goal sell it. A retainer has seven 25 item pages.
use one page per crafting job. if it doesn't fit your goal for that job. sell it. You could even have one retainer for short and the other for long term goals.

Actually I agree the inventory is too small. You can't just sell stuff. Both my retainers are selling 20 items each all the time and I have a huge backlog of stuff to sell. You can't just sell to NPCs because they gyp you, buying at ridiculously low prices. They buy a 1000 gil item for 1 gil! LOL

You have to be Miner, Gatherer, Fisher, Goldsmith, Leatherworker, etc. just to support a Weaver!

There is not enough inventory to keep your Weaver supplied with raw materials.

Let alone the problems keeping track of your gear for 20 jobs. (Need slotted gear marked so you don't remove it from the Armoury.)

sell your stuff and then buy when you need it from AH. Any deflation doomsayer will tell you that everything is too cheap on the market wards.

Erm...apparently the specific statement "both my retainers are selling 20 items each all the time and I have a huge backlog of stuff to sell" wasn't clear enough...?

Not to forgett that you only have half the inventory spaces as a DOL since you need two spaces for every material, normal- and high- quality.

Couldn't we just have a Crafting Chest for Mats ?

The inventory management in this game is much like other MMOs. Quickly filled with useless items, materials and stuff. As mentioned by Haibel, use the retainer. It functions as both bank and well, retainer. How correct my statement is.. I dunno.

I'd kill for just a sorting function in the armory chest. When I'm doing seal turnins or feel like blowing 30mins to an hour crafting the constant shifting from one class to the next makes the chest a damn nightmare.

Because my weaver is higher than my main class I have gathering/crafting sets all the way to 20...but every time I hit the next levels in my other jobs I'm forced to go through each and every tab to figure out where the hell that level 10 chest went or even if I have an upgrade for that particular level.

I'm doing just fine with inventory management. You have to use both retainers and sort everything as it goes into storage. I sort things by type. I keep all my crafting materials obtained through combat on two pages and even keep different skins/hides grouped together. I have 2 pages for materials I mined with ore in one place and everything else separate. I use three pages for botany - one for wood and two for foods. My other retainer holds onto intermediate crafted goods like leather and ingots, materia, and gear I'm not currently using.

My only problem, as someone else said, is the armory chest. A simple "sort by level" function would vastly improve the functionality for me. The constant switching between classes makes the whole thing one big jumble that's impossible to keep sorted properly on your own.

I agree with this that the inventory management can be in issue with the game.

    My Wishlist:

Ability to open up multiple tabs so I can move stuff easily within my own inventory. The option to show ALL 4 tabs would be nice.
Sort option to quickly arrange items by type. Crafting items, potions, food etc.

Its nothing too complicated (I would think), and its not asking for a lot either.
