I just want artistic and aesthetic continuity.this thread boils down to people who want more visual options,
and haterade.
Basically there are people who want the world to me more varied and diverse, and the haters who dont want anyone to be able to look different, the very sight of anything that doesn't fit their narrow view annoys them. Even if being in dipped in fire and having a huge flaming sword had nothing to do with any stats, or in fact had the weakest stats, they would still rage on seeing anyone dare to be flashy. They feel inadequate, and thus even though their own worth is not determined by anyone else, and they may in fact be the strongest player alive, they are still angry that anyone else can be flashy and happy, that anyone can feel joy by rules other than their own angers them more than anything.
artistic and aesthetic continuity makes sense withing a town, or a city. There is no logical reason why totally different cultures and will choose too look exactly the same, people dress different in africa, then they do in new york, then they do in china then they do in india. Since we will eventually travel throughout the world it would make sense if there was different rules for fashion.
And you have to remember as far as continuity, they will adapt it to the overall tone of the game. Its not a cartoon so the gear that has more visual effects will work within that framework, like lantern shield.
It's set within its own period and continent. The countries in this game are so close together that quite frankly I'm surprised there's any differentiation between them at all. I'm all for finding new places and equipment, but they have to make sense with the rest of the world.artistic and aesthetic continuity makes sense withing a town, or a city. The lantern shield glows because, for whatever reason, there's a lantern stuck in the shield. Glowing weapons in the context of the game make no sense. Shiny weapons, maybe, but the strength of design in this game is in the details. Stronger equipment has more intricate designs and patterns on them, not a luminescent radiance.
The same logical reason that some one stuck a lantern in a shield, (basically to provide light) is the same reasons people might want a glowing weapon. Glowing weapon could boil down to light sword, to provide light in the dark. There are more logical reasons for weapons with some sort of glowing element, or special effect than not in this games setting. Im not saying every weapon or every high level weapon, but the need, or the reason is already out there. It's set within its own period and continent. We have huge growing crystals in game that harness unknown energies, would it be insane to try to make a weapon using this? We will have materia that can be added to gear, would it be insane that some of it has glowing elements? Is it crazy if i have an armor that through adding a magical glowing crystal to it, reduces my fire damage noticeably, that the centerpiece crystal in the chest armor has a crystal that seems to dance with fire?
That actually makes perfect sense, and is accurate to the game world and the current technology.
I get that you hate the look of anything glowing, probably because you associate it with over the top designs, and the people who looked for those things in other games, but that is not a logical reason, and is more a bias of either your own visual preference, or prejudice from previous executions of said effects.
If you wanted this game to be a more dark ages, low magic/fantasy type game, thats really not what it was billed as. Look at how common place magic is, and the effects already in game. This is just the starter skills, the weak power stuff.
Uh... there IS magic in this game. Are you forgetting that? SE doesn't have to use non-magical explanations for glowing effects. The lantern shield glows because, for whatever reason, there's a lantern stuck in the shield.
