latern shield glows???
Dance like you mean it !

Lantern Shield just pwnd this thread. Ouch.
Final Fantasy ... well, Final Fantasy has always had special weapons. It's had diamond sword and ice brand that look like their namesake. Ice Shield, Flame Shield, Stone (Medusa) Arrows. I could go on and on. I always wondered why the MMOs do such a drastic job of taking the FF out of the XI(V).
I'm not saying I want a sword made of fire, glowing and blaring and looking tacky and ridiculous - but it could certainly be designed to look like fire, even have subdued aura/glow or runes that make it look magical, or have a "flame" animation as you hit the monsters.
All of this is part of what it's meant to be Final Fantasy for 20 years. So it's weird to hear so many people dead set against it. It's like XI is the only FF you ever played. Good choice, but there's more to the series than that.
Edit: By "designed to look like fire," I meant a metal sword that has the shape or coloring of a flame, not designed to be flame itself. Sorry if that caused confusion.
Actually i think a sword made out of fire would look awesome, like tidus sword in FFX, it looked like it was forged out of water, so a sword/spear that is made out of like flame done right could look awesome, again SE does design awesome looking wepons on their offline games.Lantern Shield just pwnd this thread. I think this precedent is the kind of thing to go for. I like the armor and weapon design in the game as it is, though, but I'm a big fan of the art director's previous work. I don't see a problem with glowing weapon accents or maybe a subtle effect like Brotherhood's bubbles/water blade. Doesn't need to be WoW's super-glowy shoulders and staves, just a little thing to let us know the weapon is pulsing with magic power.Actually i think a sword made out of fire would look awesome, like tidus sword in FFX, it looked like it was forged out of water, so a sword/spear that is made out of like flame done right could look awesome, again SE does design awesome looking wepons on their offline games.
IMO if they add any weapon/armor with elemental properties or something out of the ordinary the armor should reflect as such. We don't need people walking around with weapons drooling with water. However have design cuts embedded into each weapon/armor would be cool. XIV prides itself with its detail so SE should continue this and further build on it.

Im ok as long the glow just like the lantern shield, only the ornament glows, not all of it
Aion Zwei - Masamune

I'm not a big fan of when the weapon effect obscures the weapon model, but beyond that sure. PARTS of the weapon glowing would be neat.
wisps of an element maybe (Not a lot of elemental weapons in ff games have elemental effects until you actually hit something with them)
If the blade is the effect thats cool tool.

i don't know about glows, if they're made good i won't care ^^.
what i'd like tho this time around is an actual effect on the weapons if we get en- spells again.
