Lobby Error 2002, then client loks up--have to CTR-ALT-DEL sign out.

Windows 8, fully updated (ran it last night).
Asus G75VX series laptop:
i7 3630 Quad
nVidia GTX 670MX (3GB)
8GB DDR3 RAM
1TB HD
TWC cable internet (benches 16M/1M)
Zonealarm and Avast have exceptions listed (updated rules for the new executables and known IP's are whitelisted)

Only started after patching this morning. Hopefully it's just a temporary fix that is taken care of with the pending emergency maintenance?

actually... it's PDT...if it was PST, there would have been almost a full hour for me to be able to log in still. Part of what always screws with me. My stupid phone app never compensates for Daylight Savings. Besides.. didn't see the notice up with a time--the only one I saw was saying it was pending during off-peak times, no time was given.

The bigger problem is that the client still let me log in and get all the way to the Start page, and then locked up with the 2002 error. I had to hit CTR-ALT-DEL and forcibly close XIV or sign out of Windows because I play Full Screen and it was completely unresponsive otherwise. SE needs to come up with a more graceful way to recover or otherwise prevent the launch process when maintenance is up. I should have received a notice when I hit the "Play" button (they did this with XI...IDK why they have trouble with it for XIV). I should have never made it to the Start page in the first place if maintenance was going on. But even then, I shouldn't have had the client completely lock up on me when I got the 2002 error.

oh.. and now it's even worse. Don't even get to the start page, the client just crashes to desktop when I hit Play now. So much for moving my toon to the city (got bounced last night out in the field as I was heading back to Drybone...was literally right outside of town too. /sigh).

No error message from the game, no errors in the Windows logs either. Click Play, and it just falls to the desktop.

Only two things have changed since I was on last night--SE's maintenance and 7 small Winupdates (less than 100MB total). Will look into rolling them back when I get home tonight. If that doesn't fix it, might have to try to roll back the XIV files, just in case it's client corruption. Hopefully I can just pull in files from my last backup and have it update again. Really don't want to re-install and patch it from scratch..... SE really needs to work on better error recovery.
