If it's that much of a bother to you, you can use one of those anti afk kick macros you where talking about. Really, its not even an annoyance. If you're gone from you computer that long, what's 30 seconds of logging back in? I don't see how the extremely minor negative outweighs the minor positive.
If the server isn't at capacity, then you're not taking up space. There is enough room for everyone.

I can use a macro to avoid the kick, but I shouldn't have to do it. The fact that this is possible just illustrates how pointless this "feature" is. Having it benefits nobody. You admit the positive is minor, as is the negative. If neither the benefits nor the pitfalls have a substantial impact, then why did they waste time implementing it in the first place?

Well... to make your point valid, these games should have at least the same amount of concurrent connections than this or other popular MMOs have...
They do. In Maplestory, pretty much everyone is dogpiled on the first server that was set up for the game, and subsequently dogpiled in the first channel way beyond how may people should really be on it. There are idle people all over the place and still there's no afk kick timer. The experience is much smoother on the other servers, but they still didn't need it. Why punish everyone when one server is overcrowded?
