AK First run - Faith in FFXIV Community

Did my first run in AK today and thought I was gonna have a nightmare with Elitists.

So I use the Duty Finder and as the Tank I think it's my duty to inform everyone it's my first run. And everyone was ok with it O_o

I'd read all the guides and watched the videos so I had a basic grasp but these guys explained absolutely everything. Stuck with me during the Demon Wall and we got it done with "some" wipes.

Just like to shout out to Siam Siam (Our WHM) for guiding me through it and not being a douche! No idea what server he's on but he restored my faith in the FFXIV community.

That's great, I just did a run where I informed the tank he couldn't do speed runs, he tried, died, no one followed. He then spent 30 minutes arguing about it, then scouring the internet, just to get disappointed and left. Told a FC tank to Q up, he joined we won. Too bad the penalty for leaving like that is only 15 minutes CD on duties.

Yea.. I queue'd up and tried to run through it once, told everyone to stay back, and died. Shrugged and just went at it the normal way and still cleared it fairly quickly. It sucks, but oh well.. I'm sure just about everyone who was doing it knew it was going to happen.

While I'm happy for you (yay! ), I think what you said above IS the problem.

This is a game.

It's supposed to be fun. If it's fun to you to read-up on stuff beforehand, that's cool. But ask yourself: Would you have done the same if you didn't knew that elitists existed in the game? Or do you always do that with single player games.

I for myself like challenges and surprises in my game. I won't read guides and spoil me. For me, that's the opposite of fun.

On a different note, I hope I make the same experience.

I'm so glad all of you are even able to log in! I can't even load the na servers, as is usual after a maint. but still, well past the time and I can't log in.
Oh, and you can probably still speed run. Just have the whm swiftcast raise on the pld after they die, and the pld gets up when the mobs run away and res' everyone. Win.

Well, I personally have had all good AK runs except for a few(just one actually) where people just left without a word. My first 3-4 runs were horrible.. I brought the team down, one even made us ran out of time. But from then onwards I got really used to it and lots of friendly people just taught each other whenever there's someone new. Although, 75% of the time I went with all japanese.. I have no idea why if I queued for all languages there isn't a mix of people and it's either all english or all japanese, lol.

Of course not! I like going into places and having a challenge but with this game people are unforgiving. I shouldn't "have" to do it and I'd rather not. But the fact is if you don't you can have a horrible time and end up not enjoying the game.

Very much like GW2 when you had to know everything. Which I don't like but it happens.
