    Removing Abilities when Level Syncing

Please stop this. My hotbars at level 42 are set up with the abilities I use in combat. When I am Sync'd for Fates or Dungeons down to levels 30ish and below I lose FAR TOO MANY ABILITITES! Then I have to go rearranging and searching for the older versions of spells. It is just too much of a hassle. Just reduce the damage and stop messing with my action bars. Thank you.

While I completely love this game, I agree with this. It doesn't add meaningful challenge, it just adds dumb frustration every time I run a lower dungeon to help a friend or level sync for a Fate. "Oh, how many aetheryte stacks do I have now? Whoops, no more Garuda. Whoops, no more Fester." It's not a gamebreaker but I've played MMOs that preserve your abilities when you level sync, in a weakened state of course, and the experience was far more pleasant.

Considering that everything uses the Potency system to determine damage I don't think any adjustments would actually need to be made. Get sync'd, you're weaker so now all attacks are weaker. I totally agree though removing abilities and/or traits make running lower level content with a friend very frustrating.

all of your hotbars are taken for just your lvl 42 skill set?.. you have 8 i believe. just create one set for when you fate farm below your level.

edit: also adding skill you shouldnt have at that level makes it easier no matter how "reduced" the potency is. running a lower level dungeon with a friend and your whm has regen, medica, shroud, etc. there is almost no need to wait for a full party.

the dungeon levels do a good job getting you used to the skills available to you and how to use them correctly. that way "bad" players learn.. hopefully lol

but for legacy people, this probably won't be a solution.

the entire game is build on potency scaling, there is NO REASON WHAT SO EVER to remove skllls.

Some fans will defend anything even blatantly bad design.

I don't understand the problem. Why are you rearranging things? Your bars should contain all your useful actions from 1 to 50, with lv. 1 actions being useful even at cap. You get fewer combos, but the actions you memorized should be in the same place, no more or less difficult to use compared to lv. 50 or whatever. Dropping down 10 or so levels will only lose you a handful of actions, anyway. One thing you have to be mindful is how you order your cross-class skills since the order only matters when you drop in level.

EDIT: Scaling potency balances pure damaging actions, but what about all the other utilities, combo bonuses (i.e. utilities and higher potency), etc.?

as a BLM fireI and iceI become pretty useless once you unlock fireIII and iceIII same goes for pretty much any level of thunder and it's really annoying when they cut off the higher leveled skills, i don't even have the basic ones on my hotbars at all anymore.

You might want to look into some Macro's. They have been most useful for when level synching for Fates

    ie.

    /michon "Stone II"
    /ac "Stone II" <t>
    /ac "Stone" <t>

Michon will take the timer & icon from Stone II for the skill and if you are in a fate for level synch. you will use the appropriate Stone skill for that level. You can change it up for whatever skills you have. Go take a look at some of the wonderful macro guides people have posted, they have been most helpful.
