As much as I want to fully agree with you, after looking at threads about this for a while there are some people that are playing on worlds that legitimately still have 1017 issues during peak hours. For those people I can understand why they want the timer... I don't have 1017 issues anymore on Hyperion so it seems like just a band-aid for me but that's not necessarily true for others.

That being said, I'm for increasing the kick time to 1 hour. I'd rather not have an AFK kick at all but under the circumstances (some worlds still getting 1017, digital downloads being re-activated) I can see the point of introducing it. I just feel like it's currently too short and punishes people that are fully intent on playing but may have had something unexpected come up.

I'd imagine the AFK kick timer will also help alleviate some of the lag issues people on highly-populated servers seem to be having. Perhaps not immediately, but certainly over time.

I'll disagree, but it should be handled differently. If the player is not currently in a DF queue, then the auto-logout should take place depending on what the player is or isn't doing:
    - In DPS characters, if the player has not engaged enemies of their skill level in the last 30 minutes.
    - In Gathering, if the player has not gathered something of their skill level in the last 30 minutes
    - In Crafting, if the player has not crafted anything of their skill level in the last 30 minutes
    AND
    - Is not currently in a party in the same zone.

Then Prompt (physically capture gamepad, mouse and keyboard to this box) with several buttons for the user to click on. "Click on the Chocobo to not be logged out". You want to break any "running in circles", spam or other automated anti-idle.

Active movement in Diablo games are determined by input (like any other game), the difference is that with Diablo type games, movement is determined by active clicking. There is no "autorun" so-to-speak. It just runs to short distanced point that you actively clicked. It's a slightly different system with movement in a game that is only determined by point clicking.

For the most part, MMORPGs register active input, so simply auto-running will not register.

Remember digital sales are currently unavailable...if they resume them and the demand continues to be high, there's chance you'll get stuck behind 1017 again when that new influx of players kicks in.
Auto-afk can alleviate the stress on the server so you don't get to play the 1017 mini-game once again.

Or farming Animal Skins for leather? Or watching cutscenes in my inn? Or reading completed quests in my log (which btw there's some nifty story on some of them you may miss during the quests)? I can think of tons of reasons I may not do something of my skill level. The way it is set up now is fine, although I'd prefer it be 1 hour instead of 30 min, at least until DF queue times decrease for DPS. That's a valid complaint.

Average wait time is not exact time. What if your Que pops in 29 minutes? You are afk and miss the Que regardless of the afk kicker.

I've had duty finder pop in 25 minutes or less.. not always, but sometimes. How are you going to justify walking away for 40 minutes while you are qued and having a chance to miss the dungeon regardless of the afk kicker?
Easy to answer. Turn your volume up. You'll get the sound of the window popping up when your queue pops so you can tab back to the game/return to the computer. Setting the afk timer both solves the afking at work and all night issue, while simultaneously not punishing people for long queue times.

You know, you really dont have to stand and stare at your monitor while waiting on the queue to pop.
You can go out and kill stuff while waiting, which btw.. ironic enough helps the so called gil problem alot of people seem to have as well.
