The term NM - Notorious Monster, is fairly synonymous with a boss. Fates, have farm and boss - or as a lot of us old timers, who weren't lazy - still call them NM's. In fact, if you'd been playing, many of them are even the same name as their FFXI counterparts, with the same skins as well!

And therein lies the rub, I have a low tolerance for idiocy. Saying something's great when there's no need for it anymore at implementation just shows how short sighted you are.

Saying something has no need anymore just because one doesn't experience the problems him/herself yet others still are show how short sighted you are.

In order for someone to be short-sighted, they'd have to be missing some important long-term downside. Please explain said downside.

Two things: Firstly - the load on the game is going to drop. Making the short term "need" for this outweigh the benefits in the long run. It's an MMO starting. SE underestimated the expectations on the servers and we all suffered because of them. I still get in queues daily. But - I'm also aware that once subscriptions need to be paid, I'm going to see a drop in server populace. This isn't anything remarkable to grasp. It's fairly expected. And I really doubt I'll be seeing queues in a months time (if not less).

Secondly - by devoting time to things that from what I've read, are permanant, to a short term issue, we're losing dev time on other things - QoL, content, stability, etc. Personally - I'd be placing a higher priority on other things than making sure idler's get kicked, because any serious idler will have found a way around the system already - automated macro's for example - without net gain. Which will then create an issue with folk trying to report bots for idling - and taking GM time away from dealing with the serious issues such as handling the mass of RMT, and other more pressing concerns.

Well I would say what your missing is the savings in server resources so populated zones can perform without lag, reduced strain on servers with less concurrent connections. enabling a lighter traffic load. as well as a way for people to be auto logged out when they get the rare bug of being disconnected but the session staying on the server. now instead of needing SE to figure out about it an hour+ later, they can rest assured 30 minutes would be the max time.

also if you followed yoshi-P you would know that they were working on this early on, but switched to increasing server capacity. the Dev's likely realized that this feature would save them immensely not just for players but for their own infrastructure. very similar reasons WoW, TERA, and many other MMO's have done.

reversely what are good reasons to remove this feature? I listed good reasons to have them we can debate.

I highly suspect the benefit you're going to net from kicked idlers will be undone by active players.

I also don't believe that there are that many people currently who idle - from the say 100+ people directly in the main info sharing LS, probably only 10 mules in total for spotting (and not all of those would be active at once from various FC's). Most of the LS's I'm involved with and my FC go very quiet at night time. People did not log out mostly when they were almost guaranteed to not be able to log in the day after - which for the most part isn't the problem it was - and I concede that in the first couple of weeks it was bad.

The reason that the alliance of FC's has been using a handful of mules was to check zones so we'd have timers on certain FATE NM's.

Another pro I can see is DD's with the Duty Finder. I can well empathise with them idling and tabbing out, reading things, watching a film etc - while waiting for their DF to pop. Some have said about waiting for over an hour. Yes - they can just tab back and stop the kick, but - if you're stuck in a good book waiting for a sound to alert you - well, time can fly. At which point their wait time resets. I'm a tank, so it's of less concern to me, I get instant pops (or near as). But I can sympathise with their issues - and when it comes to doing other stuff, that's another seperate issue.

I'm fairly sure WoW's was disable-able, although - there was no benefit from idling there. Never played Tera myself. I'm fairly sure EVE didn't have an auto DC "feature", and I know SWG (pre CU) didn't have an auto DC. Granted, I haven't played every single MMO out there - fairly content in sticking with ones I like for a long time.

I can see few benefits to it. I've also been told that those aren't valid reasons - because they don't match people's play style. If in a months time, we're not seeing queues for worlds, and the servers seem much quieter - then I suspect my point about it being a short term problem will be correct. Thing is - this is the internet, and I'm certainly not going to come back in a months time and say "Told you so." - no one will care.

I don't particularly like the auto-dc, but then I never raged about queues when the game started either.

Personally - I liked having a chat history that would be up while I was logged in, and if rl took me away, I could come back to later and still have it there to peruse. I liked that we could have some spotters for when we went to sleep. I feel for the DD's with their queue's and autokick.
