It's 30 minutes, which is 15 minutes longer than essentially any other MMO AFK timer. It needs to be longer than what it is, 15 min is too little. Although in 2 days, I do not think getting in will be a problem and it is not a problem right now, I just find 15 min inconvenient because if I alt-tab to take a test, eat or something I will get kicked out by it, but again it is not like it is hard to get in anymore, so no real big deal.
I thought this, myself. If folks are listening for a DF alert, this would eliminate that complaint completely.
Why are there chairs to sit in...if I can't afk in them? Seriously people didnt think people could just put a rubberband on their analog sticks or paperweight on their keyboard and do donuts while afk but whatever, I guess clever people are a rarity.

i like it keep the afk timer at all cost, i hate when i try to ask someone something and his afk for like 5 hours, or a sent /tell to a frined and he is afk, than i check later he is still afk, better to see who is actually online and not afking all the time, in every other mmo there is an afk timer why not here, can't see the reason for those who want it removed, i mean why, if you are not near the keyboard for that long , 30 min, why the hell are you in game, turn off the pc so it can cool down a bit
you have to understand that the higher lvl you get and the more stuff you get done the less you have to do to keep you from goin afk while waiting on DF to finally kick in or lest say you have to do something that take more than 30 min to get done in real life and you planing on getting back with out having to log back in, personally 30 is not enough for me if it was about an hr i would be more than happy. And really about the spam bots if you wait for the afk timer to get them then dont cry about them, give your self a few sec and report them. the GM already made a post of what you can do to help. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-%28Sep.-12%29
I cannot stop laughing at the people being serious about removing the afk timer. Like what are you, a child? Their is a reason probably why you still only wait minimal time if at all to log in to the game, and i think you are smart enough to figure that one out. If not then i will tell you..... BECAUSE THE AFK TIMER IS IN THE GAME, think about this, if some of us are still getting log in queues sometime, albeit very short. The afk timer is making it short, it is common sense. A ton of people log in and play then go afk and do other stuff, so them getting booted constantly allows the players to log in whenever they want without waiting. It is a never ending cycle, people log out, people log in, not everyone stay logged in so people who want to play can't. So y'all should stop complaining about something that is so damn trivial and has no impact on the game what so ever.
30+ page on pointless complaining when it could be on something helpful sigh...
I like the feature. I have a lower end machine and not having 50k afk people on my screen enhances my experience greatly. And in the end, what do people REALLY get out of afking? We don't have a bazaar system like FFXI. If you're going to be in the duty finder, just...I dunno, alt+tab and jump? It's not difficult. lol

If you don't like it, try playing the game instead of going afk.
How is that for an idea?
There is no reason to stay logged into the game now. You sell stuff on your retainers via the AH. You don't bazaar things. There isn't a (huge) queue to get back into the game, unless a zone has recently crashed (yay Coerthas during Behemoth). If you don't want to get logged out, jump every 29 minutes and 59 seconds. I believe the WoW auto-logout timer is the same amount (30 minutes). It's fair enough.
I just find it so funny that people begged for this feature and now people are begging for SE to take it away. I agree that it should have been around when people were AFKing all day and it's sort of useless now, but that doesn't mean it is a huge inconvenience. Just log back in... when it auto-kicks you, it keeps you on the title screen so you don't even have to type in your login/password again.
I've been playing LOTRO since closed beta and it has never had an optional auto-logout. That game has always had an auto-logout, and I think the timer is 20 minutes.
A timer isn't going to kill any of us. It's standard in most MMOs, and it takes less than a minute to log back in. ARR may go back on sale for digital copies this week or next and we may the same issues we saw at launch without a timer. I get a queue every day and some days I still get 1017'd, so clearly, congestion is still an issue. If it wasn't, digital sales would have resumed already. Publishers don't just stop selling a game unless there are problems to be resolved. When you have as many people logged in in a 24 hour period-with more trying to get in-as the game sold in its first incarnation, what do you expect the company to do? Magic servers out of thin air so people who want to AFK instead of play can do so?

It's common sense to have an auto log out feature. It should be 15 minutes if you ask me.
People don't realize that even with the server expansion, QUEUES ARE STILL HAPPENING. If they take out auto log out, we will have the same errors we had that horrible first week. To those complaining about this feature, get over yourselves.
