While I find all of these reasons pretty funny, to be honest, the most hilarious is the paying customer one for a server with limited resources.
I also love the chat one. As if chat only produces poems on a Shakespearian level and you musn't (again, lol) miss out on it.
And for some weird reason, nobody will apparently ever talk about it again, hence they must remain on at all costs.

And expanding the delay till you get kicked is totally needed, yeah... But if you really need more than 30 minutes when nature calls, you should probably see a GP,
or do what you originally wanted to do in the first place since it takes more than 30 minutes.
Oooh, and the -massive- inconvenience of logging back in. I feel your pain. I can barely stand pushing the on button on my 360, too.

Waiting to get in knowing people in the game are actually playing is much better than waiting because some people aren't playing. It also means those AFK people don't have to wait for other AFK's when they legitimately want to get back on.

Now all we need is /shout and /yell spam to not to count as being 'active'.

I'm glad they put this in, it has helped quite a bit with getting in game easier.. sure once or twice I caught wifey aggro and didn't make it back in time, but I was able to log in successfully with no problems vs hrs or maybe not even getting on that day like it was with everyone to scared to log out and lose a place not long ago.. ughh I wish to never repeat them days

I play on a RP server. Part of the fun are the conversations that take place. It is nice to stay logged in and pick right up in a role after reading what has been going on. So being AFK for a few hours makes sense from that standpoint. The AFK issue arose because of SE not having enough capacity due to player demand. If people had been able to login and and not get 1017 errors this would be a non-issue. As it is, I personally feel 30 min is too short.

some of the reasons to extend the auto log out is just *super faceplams* leave it as it is no need to extend it at all... perhaps think of ways to stop those ppl cheating it by walkin in to walls etc etc etc

I don't understand this problem, there is no bazzar in this game like FFXI why would you need to stand there doing nothing for 30 minutes and then complain about being kicked off. it takes 10-30 seconds to even log back in if the server isn't full "but this problem fixes that so you should be able to log in" and simply moving the camara an inch will reset the timer so if you are simply talking to people you won't be kicked off.

So explain to me what benefit comes from wanting to stand there for 30 minutes. if i need to afk for more then 30 minutes i log off and sit at character select screen, which takes 5 seconds to get back to.

It's fine as is as long as it doesn't get shortened. 30 is enough for a decent break. Way better than not being able to get in the game at all.

However, I never lagged in this game on either of my pc's untill the big maintenance and have had SEVERE lag since that just gets progressively worse. I know lots of bots and hackers are starting to pop up now along with the ridiculous gold seller spam but I don't like these long waits just to bring a server down and clean things up.

Please don't increase the time guys. It is great the way it is. If you are going to walk away for more than 30 minutes you should have to sign out anyway. Staying in for 3 hours while you hang with your friends is ridiculous. The AFK timer is a blessing and I hope they don't change it at all. I also think if macros can be disabled as far as the AFK timer goes it, would severely hinder the ludicrous amount of gil spammers.

Just create a macro that makes your toon jump every few minutes. Activate it then leave. It works great.
