People do realize that when using the Duty Finder, you CAN do anything while it searches for a party. You don't need to stand at the entrance. ( http://xivwiki.com/Duty_Finder ) And your retainer DOES have a transaction record that does retain info after logouts.
Perhaps those that want logs of chats for LS and FC might request the devs to look into adding that feature in a future patch? Enough players wanted the afk kicker, if enough want the logs they stand a good change of getting made.
Heck with tactics...bumrush 'em and kill 'em all.
You can't be in a fate party while waiting for duty finder... you can't level up your chocobo either because that puts you in a party with him. And those are the two main things I would want to be doing while waiting.

I'm sorry but MMO's have AFK timeouts, it's what they are to make room for people NOT playing the game, for those playing the game. Duty Finder taking too long? Don't use it, form your own group, don't wait there for 30mins reading the interwebz and expected to be treated any differently. I'm glad they have it and hope they keep it. Everyone who's complaining are guilty of being AFK and serves them right, and I think it's pathetic that this thread is 31 pages of the same people complaining about it.

Since the AFK logout started you can make characters on all the servers during their offpeak hours.
Please never remove the AFK logout SE, you beautiful bastards.
Always remember with SE be careful what you ask for.
If you want a temporary solution don't ask for it, when SE fixes something it is always over fixed (nerfed, etc) and it is almost always permanant.
When there were login difficulties there where dozens of threads to put up an AFK kick time, in every thread someone warned that it is a bad idea because once the Server issues get resolved noone will want it, but people persisted. Now that it is not needed people got what they wanted.
When it comes to SE you give them a temporary idea they run with it to the extreme.
You ask for easier mobs you get mobs you just have to AFK fight pretty much or blow on and they fall over.
You say the game is too easy you get Titan hard and Extreme.
Always remember this warning be careful what you ask for with SE, they will fix it if enough people ask but you may not like the fix.
This is the way it was in FFXI and I have already seen that this is the way it will be in FFXIV

Comon people if you aren't there for a long time too then turn off your computers!
save electricity!!
THINK OF THE ERF!!!
saves you money too.

I just think its funny when people afk for a long time in the middle of the field and something respawns and kills them... I've seen this a few times!
I dont understand what the big deal is, can someone explain to me exactly what is so life ending about a 30 min afk timer.

I will sum up what I've seen so far and remember:
They want to be able to view LS/FC/Tell chat so they don't miss out on anything.
They go afk while waiting for Duty Finder.
They think it's too short an afk timer, and want something more like 2 hours, so only people sleeping/at work will be affected.
It ruins their immersion *shrug*
People haven't posted this, but I keep seeing people bouncing around in active mode, wearing their high level gear, in the middle of the street in Uldah for hours.
They feel it's an inconvenience to log back in to the game after they're kicked.
And the most repeated reason: They paid for the game, so should be able to stay logged in all the time if they want.
Everyone thought paid retainers and fantasia would be the end of it.
You were warned.
Cash shop in, TrystWildkey out.
