Seriously, first world issue, because you can just log back in. WTF is your problem? I mean honestly, if you're not playing the game, then you're not playing the game, so log out. /rantShould be extended to about 2 hours, you'd get rid of the sleepers and workers, but those in the DF would be fine.
Or make it so the DF prevents the timer ticking down, that'd be acceptable (Although I'd prefer a flat 2 hours). If you don't respond to the queue you get kicked from the DF anyway, so if the 30 mins started then you'd be booted afterwards. Which would be fine: you missed the queue because you didn't hear the sound (Were not at your PC at all) rather than because you were distracted by that interesting forum post and got booted while you read all 15 pages.
Like someone else said though, AFKing in interesting places makes the world seem so much more lively, and now the servers are actually stable, the timer isn't really worth it.

OH MY GOD. THE GAME KICKED ME OUT WHEN I LEFT IT ON AND ATE DINNER/WENT OUT DRINKING. Shame on this game for doing that, because I should totally be able to just use resources because I "pay" money. Do people fail to remember what AFK stands for? Away from keyboard people. If you actually are away from the keyboard you're not in the game. You made an active decision to walk away just like I did last night.
Why does that matter that I have to log back in? If people like myself or anyone else are actually away from their keyboard for a period of time which in this case is 30 minutes. You deserve to be logged out, then you can log back in at your own time and not worry about having to check back to "read" what was written to you. People won't write it to you if you're logged out.

Why would this feature be removed? If you get logged out, you can log in first try now, its not like you'll get stuck for 40 mins trying to log in. There is literally no reason to dislike this feature, other than the fact that you'd have to click the login button again, big deal

OMG, it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hard to retype your password to log back in.
Please, you're being ridiculous. This was needed to keep the servers stable, and to allow people that want to play the game ACTUALLY PLAY instead of someone sitting there AFK for 4 hours.

It only sends you back to the title screen where you have to click 'start' and then click on your character and click ok to log in. You don't even have to retype your password. It doesn't log you out of the game, JUST out of the server.

I don't like the auto disconnect timer because i find it helpful seeing the tells I got while I was gone. Sometimes they're actually useful information rather than "want to do haukke?"

If it's so important that they have to tell you, there IS the Moogle Mail service. I used it rather successfully to keep in touch with one of the people I transferred from Ridill with. Don't need to be logged in to get Moogle Mail.
It's a pipe dream to think SE will get rid of this when a majority of the users were vehemently requesting it during the launch week. If you are not afk, it should be virtually impossible for this to affect you. If you go afk, then just log back in if you get back and have been booted out. I don't see what the problem is...
