Why not try the Legacy Camera Mode?

If you're having trouble with movement or AoEs, did you know that the Legacy camera mode might make your life just a tiny bit easier?

Yes, I know it sometimes causes seasickness to have the camera sway all over the place when you're running. It's also possible, with a little forethought and finesse, to have equivalent dodging ability with the Standard camera (All you need to do is be used to a little QE strafing).

Basically, when you're in the standard camera mode, you have a 180 degree field of unhindered movement. The problem occurs when you need to dodge quickly in the other 180 degrees behind you. The instant you hit the S key, your character paces backwards at about half the speed that you normally move, which is quite frankly terrible for dodging AoEs, so the proper method is usually to rotate the camera fractionally with the RMB and hit Q or E to backtrack at full speed. Now this can be a bit annoying because you can occasionally lose sight of the boss entirely or you can be running slightly angled so that you are not actually taking the most direct route out of the AoE.

In the legacy camera mode, hitting S does not make you pace backwards. Instead, your character turns instantly and runs backwards at full speed. This enables full dodging in any direction at any time with no camera adjustments at all. Even if it shaves only a millisecond or so off your reaction time, I find it helps dodging ability noticeably, while letting me keep up a dps rotation on the boss.

Of course, it could just be a personal preference thing, but why not give it a shot? I see way too many tanks trying to pace backwards out of an AoE as it is.

I use Legacy mode because I cannot fathom the standard scheme. I don't even know how people play with it. I do admit, though, it was pretty horrible trying to learn Demon Wall with it until I started strafing with q and e.

Edit: And yes, tanks, you really shouldn't be backing away out of AOE, that's way too slow. Later on, that's going to get you killed.

But I'll be you're so leet you strafe with your mouse; good luck to your group if that's the case.
Easy to dodge using a mouse, and I have cast times, Archer. I don't really know why you're having problems.

Oh, you're probably the dime-a-dozen ranged dps who breaks CC and always has things chasing them. Amirite?

Is good, yes. Takes a bit of getting used to for strafing and feels kind of weird in that you can hit things even though your back is to them (you really have to check the option to automatically face your target when using legacy movement but the animation doesn't always catch up fast enough, so it may look like you're facing away from the target and yet hitting it) - but it's huge help for getting out of death fast.

I prefer cutting out the middle man and just using the mouse for movement. A lot faster and a lot more accurate in my experience.

The funny thing is I actually find the Demon Wall a lot easier with Legacy than Standard. You can just keep the Demon wall as your main target all of the time and heal or offcast with mouseovers! Standard Camera + "Face target when casting" has been known (according to second hand accounts from my healer when I actually get to go DPS once in a blue moon) to create hilarious and unfortunate movement problems when movecasting on the demon wall.

I have to play with legacy controls I can't fathom the WoW style camera it just breaks me.

I don't think I'll ever be able to use a mouse as my primary movement tool I play pretty much with my keyboard soley. I'm sure some uber leet WoW king killer big wheeler just shed a tear but meh.

Seconding all of this. I barely even touch my mouse in this game (and never did in FFXI, either), usually only for targeting something when there's a million people around it and tab or 0 on the number pad don't work. TERA is really the only MMO where I can tolerate the mouse-movement.

The way I look at it is.... which one are you more used to? I played 1.0 so, I am more used to Legacy Movement. People who are used to the more WoW type controls probably are used to games that use that setup. As long as people are dodging who the eft cares?

Though, I think with Titan (Hard) specifically you should try out the Legacy Controls for weights in last phase. It helped a lot of people I've suggest this to, but really only in that particular instance.
