Also, make the mini-game an actual mini-game based on skill/reflexes/brains rather than semi-blind luck and make the mini-game different for each craft.
That's all.

yes please.
It's funny how almost everyone says the same thing, remove the randomness and add skill to crafting.
Yes please +1
Yeah I'm all for changing the mini-game as long as it is A) Fun and B) involved, requiring and based on player skill.
I just don't want to see the auto-crafting prevalent in other games.
I agree but I also don't want a spamming challange game when i'm trying to synth 600 hempen yarns or hundreds of nuggets or something.
Lol.
Keep dreaming.
It'll always be luck based. Always.
None of you even sound like people who should be crafting in the first place. Just stick to combat classes and let real men do the crafting for you.
who pissed in your cornflakes?
None of us sound like people who shouldn't be crafting? hmmm mention skill and you get all pissy. You ain't got skill?
Lots of people don't like the crafting system. If we want to explore and talk about other options and suggestions we are more then free to. That's what these forums are for. If your here to troll only and have nothing constructive to say GTFO.

Beletgeuzah, are you saying there is no way to improve the crafting system as it is? That's part of what the OP is talking about, making something even better.
I am perfectly okay with crafting as it is, that being said I can see how some may find it boring and would want something more fun. For most people in this thread it seems if something is based on their skill as a player, it is more fun.
As with combat each action should have a chance of success or failure to varying degrees based on the stats/rank of the player and the recipe. However there can still be player skill involved.
Who are you to say who should or should not craft? What qualities make up this designation?
Sorry, don't let the facts stop you by any means.
Crafting is already getting a plethora of improvements. It doesn't need anything else for the time being. If you don't like it, don't do it. It's not for everyone, and it's not meant to be. Otherwise everything would work by just pressing a button and getting instant results, or it "sux and is boringz"

Personal attack aside I can agree that they will never let the randomness go, it wouldn't be an Eastern MMORPG without constant heartbreaking failure.
However, it's the illusion of influence that bothers me the most. I can spam standard and succeed or try my hardest, play it safe, and still fail. I can coddle my craft until it gets over 200 quality with no reward for all that risk.
Alongside that is the fact that the mini-game isn't engaging or even a challenge.
Take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IT3hnZ3ZtOE
Not only is that more fun, engaging, and challenging, it also is shorter than FFXIV's crafting. And you can also make it even quicker by just being better at it and the quicker you do it the more bonuses you got, win/win. (Not to mention the mini-game steps were based on actual ingredients used)
So, my point is make an actual mini-game or just give us the normal bar and wait for the craft to be done system. All I do is click standard, alt-tab, repeat, be great if I could stay alt-tabbed for the 3 minutes while it decided if I was going to fail or succeed.
