That's one way to do it heheh I like pulling all I can find with scourge then bliz II for a few seconds. Rinse and repeatI've noticed the exact opposite, especially when I was farming diremites. When I was on par with the mobs, I got terrible drops. When I was a couple of levels higher than them I had about four times as good a result. My level 30 Thaum sits in La Nosc dotting level 8 wind sprites and gets a drop every second or third kill. More time spent running from mob to mob than killing them. I stopped harvesting crystals once I realised this, and now just kill every sprite I run past.![]()
My issues so far:
1) Culinary, Whaaaaaatttthef- At least most of the other professions are making something that they're going to use and/or sell; something that lasts, something that can be soulbound and converted into materia. Culinarians are making a PIE that gets CONSUMED and lasts THIRTY MINUTES and goes away if you DIE. Culinary recipes either need to have their crystal requirements reduced (see #2 for an AWESOME way) or have their output increased by about 500%. If I spend 6 crystals on something, and its consumable, I better be making 6 of them. :P
2) Components. Components. Components. Making distilled water uses a shard? Butter? SALT?? WHY? I need magic to create butter? Really? What a sad state of affairs. If the recipe is to make a component thats solely used for something else (see: Flour, Gelatin, Pie Crusts, etc.) it shouldn't use a shard. Save the shard consumption for the actual final product, or we're getting taxed twice.

Also see Armorer for this. Ores-> Ingots -> Plates/rivits/rings -> Final products, not to mention some recipes need other finished products to do as well. Too bad the Ice and Earth shard yield abilities are from botany and not mining. Oh so sick of iron ore, need tons of it as use it for both the iron and steel phases of leveling which is 10-30 that I know of. Need 3 ore per iron ingot, and cant remember if it was 2 or 3 per steel, which just showed up in my crafting logs, and haven't checked recently other to know what to mine, waiting on hitting that +yield trait before go back and mine more. On top of a couple ice and earth shards per synth, that is going to be a lot of gathering.2) Components. Components. Components. Making distilled water uses a shard? Butter? SALT?? WHY? Damn, wish I could just start the game with every class at level 50; that would keep me interested real long... If you want something done quickly, you either invest a buttload of time, or you pay someone else to do a portion of the work (in this case, gathering shards). This has been pretty standard not just in MMOs, but that crazy thing called real life.
I'm not refuting what the OP is saying, but it sounds more like some crafting recipes use too many shards, as opposed to the rate of gathering being an issue (although they kind of go hand in hand).
Edit: In light of BlackCat75's post, it seems far more evident that crafting and it's progression is far more broken then the rate/amount you get from each node. If every crafting job is going to use base shards for 90% of their recipes, it is going to keep market price high, and the Crystal/Clusters you gather as you level BTN or MIN becomes redundant.

If my posts seem short or incoherent, I am probably editing the rest in.
Higher level nodes do have higher yield on shards in certain areas... Do a little exploring. As well as with the buffs you can increase that yield even further every few nodes.

I wonder...
Why dont Square Enix add some Krystal-Fields where you can mining those Shards?
I mean: They already done so in Quests, why isnt it possible to add it on DoL too?
Is it really hard to smash on a Krystal with your pick and get some Shards?
When you look around, you see Krystals everywhere... you just cant take them!
Actually out of the 99 leve's I had I am down to 5 or 7 I think. Granted spent about 40 or 50 of them doing the GSM leve that gave 15k for a normal and 45kxp for a HQ turn in. Sadly it was one leve per turn in, but considering I went from 35 to 45 GSM in less than a day with it I am still not going to complain. the rest were spent on Weaving Leve's which netted me level 25-30, and Mining Leve's which Netted me with some grinding Level 32-36 today.
But now I am out of leve's for a while. time to work all the DoW's which I got to 15. But Leve's only hold out for so long.
In 1.0 you got shards from drops, i sit at about 8k of each shard of each size lol. Would be nice if they brought that back.
well except clusters >_> i only have like 2 of those
Stopped reading a lot of these replies after it was getting ridiculous, I can mine a 1000 shards in 45 minutes, at level 1, did it already when shards shot up to 60 each on ah. If it takes you 2 hours with the double shard ability at 48.. you are doing something majorly wrong..
