Turning it up to Lv 50!

    Hello, fellow tanks!

I just recently turned level 50 (yaaaay ) and boy has my world been turned upside down! Ok, maybe not that bad. But once I got to Castrum....heh, well [ Insert rant here ].

Basically, I've been doing fine as a tank all the way up until now and I didn't really do all that bad during the Castrum run. The only issue I had was the people who were expecting me to know everything top-to-bottom upon my first run (which I clarified as to being my first). It was just a couple of mages who talked smack throughout the whole run. The other tank with me was nice, probably had a similar start with 8-runs as I did.

But what I want to know is.....Is that like a thing now?
I've heard complaints from time-to-time before I hit 50. But is that going to happen in like....every run? I don't rage quit and cry in my pillow or anything. And it's not going to make me quit playing the role either! But every now and then, I find it a little perturbing, especially when they start typing more than doing their own job.

As I said, I've done fairly well as a tank so far, but I do not deny that I could use a little improvement on my tanking. After all, this is my first mmo and I'm under the impression that this is where things are eventually going to get complicated. Do you guys have any advice or know of any videos to help me step up my game? Any advanced tricks would be helpful, I'm ready to expand!

You can find good guides to all the primals and AK on youtube. Honestly it doesn't take much experience to tank the current content (BC not included, have not done it personally). As a tank you shouldn't let idiots have their way with delaying your party's progress. Tell people what to do, listen to their suggestions, ignore their complaining. If they are being too much trouble just leave, you are the foundation of the party and can get another group quickly while they get to take their whining to hours of wasting time. Most people appreciate a good tank and it is easy to make friends to avoid doing pugs.

The rant, the trolls, the elite players... yes this is going to get complicated. But i'lll tell u something...

Do you know how many tanks are out there? And among them, do you know how many are good? Try to get you some allies, FC people or others, form your own parties, find a reliable couple of healers to go with. You are a tank, people NEED you, so make it count.

Tanking since EverQuest 1 here. Hello Lady Vox.

Unfortunately, there are people out there that will get frustrated that other people don't know the content yet, even though they probably just learned it a few days ago (I mean the game has only been out a couple of weeks!). If people get annoyed that a boss mechanic throws you off because you are seeing it for the first time...well, that is wrong IMO. I am not really sure why people get so annoyed/frustrated/angry so easily in MMOs. If you wipe 25 times, sure, that is frustrating. But I don't know why people would even want to play if a simple thing such as a person being new to a dungeon gets them so worked up. It seems like the game wouldn't even be fun if it gets you so in a twist. It doesn't take much effort to extend some common courtesy. That aside though, I always try to read up on all the strategies before I do a new dungeon because I know everyone is going to expect me to know what is going on. It's not really fair, but, that's the way it is.

Sorry to double post, but I also wanted to say that I wish I didn't HAVE to look up the strategies before I do a new dungeon. Part of the fun to me is encountering something new and figuring out how to beat it. Reading a guide before hand takes some of the fun out of it for me. But MMOs are serious business, so that mentality doesn't fly.

    Thanks for the responses, guys!

Um, I do want to clarify that I am in a free company which is very friendly and active. The only current issue right now is that almost all of the upper level members are tanks! I call it the 'Tanktuary'

But yeah, I'm going to get on later today and finally try some more of the 8 man dungeons! Anyone who wants to complain is more than welcome to leave.
