YES

The summons should be redesigned to be actual living breathing creatures and should be the focus of the class. The class should completely focus on commanding the pet. I like the idea of arcanist skills transforming into commands for the currently active summon.

I don't even play Summoner but it seems to kind of limit what they can do in the future. Why make summoner a dot class when it can be a pet class? That means that a future class that would be a better fit for a dot class will be similar to Summoner. I guess they can introduce a beastmaster or puppet master who is a true pet class.

Just take a look at the spiritmaster in Aion. In my opinion they did a great job of creating a summoner class which really works with his pet and not just a floating/running DoT.

That means you didn't really play Aion.　Spiritmaster's pet was a floating buff machine (Sypathetic Mind) and floating shield (Spirit Command: Bodyguard or Spirit Substitution). It's still a DoT in any other combat except most pets were melee with only 1 being ranged, which was super weak and died almost instantly.

Also, changing DoTs means destroying Arcanist. Which further means destroying Scholar. Not so simple.

Not much balancing to do, not that much of a change in terms of gameplay, but the feeling would be totally different.

Actually yes,there would be a lot of balancing that would be needed and that's excluding the fact you destroyed scholar with your suggestion as well.

Yes Dwill if a job is not done right it has to be remade, if this will affect scholar then further work is to be made from SE. We are not here to save them development costs, all jobs must be satisfying for this game to be enjoyable in all aspects. One of the major flaws of FFXIV (the original) is the lost identity of classes! e.g. conjurer being whm/blm etc.. which made SE admit to the fact that they need to return jobs again. Summoner is currently the only job suffering this identity issue and it cannot be ignored.

Summoner's aren't DoT masters as well. Summoner's primary job is to Summon and Command Magic Beasts while also having a secondary job.

When the Summons were used by every player in final fantasy game it was also the time where every character used FIRE and FIRGA. So does that mean a black mage identity wasnt clear in the past final fantasy games? I guess not, and same goes for summoner.

I believe the only named summoners are Rydia and Yuna, neither of which was "just" a summoner. They had other roles as well (blm and whm). Also, it's the ones in which everyone could summon, you didn't JUST summon, you'd pair it with another skill. 5 comes readily to mind. There has never been a FFXI where all a summoner did was summon, except for FFXI. This whole post is nothing more than a desire to implement FFXI summoners in FFXIV, which would not work.

Cool, considering the first thing I do is summon Ifrit, and I have to make sure he's around, seems like I Am doing that.
