I'd have to say mine is a toss up between 7 and 9.

7 had a great storyline and really pushed the 3-d envelope back in the day and had awesome side quests/mini games... AND BEWBS. BIG ANIMATED BEWBS.

9 had an amazing storyline and I loved the skill system in how you learned things. I also enjoyed the optional movies and mini games. What really made 9 stand out to me was the combat system. The fact that you could combine characters skills to get cross class abilities like you could in chrono trigger. I had tons of fun doing the side stories too just to advance the character story of all the random characters. Really had a lot of depth.

I liked FF8 for the down to earth and real world aspects (Galbadia being like a real world town for example) (Squall being at a school, albeit it was scifi...). For years rpgs were always set in fantasy worlds. It was a nice change until I put in the second disk.

Main series? Toss-up between Final Fantasy 6, due to its world and how every character was the main character of your group (not to mention 16 playable characters = win), and Final Fantasy 13, due to how well done the plot was (until that Deus Ex at the end), the battle system, and me liking the characters.

Spin-offs? Final Fantasy Tactics without a doubt.

In order: XI, IX and X

XI because I loved the whole party set-up. Also helped that I had an excellent LS for a good couple of years.

IX because the setting and characters were larger than life.

X because it is a beautiful game (minus the laughing scene).

Final fantasy III: change jobs class :3
Final fantasy IV: Difficult game and boss strategics.
Final Fantasy X: Blitzball, music, rikku

Final Fantasy Tactics, same like FFIII, change job class, leveling all of them.

    Final Fantasy 7 because:
I learned English that way. Yep, the truth.
First game that made me cry.
    I loved the world.
    I loved the characters.
    I loved the story.
    And a few other reasons.

    Close second: Final Fantasy 12

    Close Third: Final Fantasy 6

    - Great ensemble cast of characters. There was a lot of diversity in character types, and except for a few outliers (Umaro, Gogo), they all had great stories.

    - No "main" character. You got to build your own party without being forced to take a certain character. The story also did focus entirely on one character with only minor development for other characters, like in FF7 or FF8.

    - Solid battle system. I liked the Esper -> Magic system, and I liked that each character got their own unique ability. The characters ended up feeling unique, but customizable.

    - 4 person party! I miss this (although at least FF9 had this too). ; ;

    - The World of Balance -> World of Ruin change halfway through the game. I loved the dynamic that created and how it not only changed the geography and feel of the world, but every playable character reacted differently to it. It really helped to flesh out the characters.

    - Kefka. He may not have had the most depth out of the FF villains (I kind of feel like Golbez would fit best for that), but he was definitely evil. I liked that we not only got to see his rise to power, but also his decent into madness. He may have already had one foot through that door to insanity when we first met him, but it was pretty awesome to see him really jump off the deep end.

Also it was the last 2D main FF title and was the best looking and best sounding of the bunch.

Hells yes. I hope they remake this on a modern machine at some point in 3D, retell the story a bit. I have to say, I am very pleased with how much VI has influenced XIV.
