Name Your Favorite Final Fantasy & Why (Aside From ARR)

My favourite Final Fantasy is 6. There is just something about this game that makes me want to go back and play it. I enjoyed the story. The classic combat system never fails at it's simplicity and challenge. And with just a bit of grinding you can break the game with Tera or Celes with Quick Ultima spell combos. Never has breaking a game been so fun. The re-release with the additional content for the GBA just made the game even more re-playable and some much more difficult as common strategies failed against some of the bosses in the dungeon. It's simple fun and the second half isn't completely linear.

As for second place I'll have to tie 4 with 7, and maybe 5 (but as I've never gotten to much into 5 for the lack of time I never completed the game). I pare these up because to me 7 is really hard to go back and play. There was just something about this one that turned me off, and I think it might have been the overly dramatic Summons spells and enemy skills. Long Dramatic spells are not cool when you have to watch it in full without skipping every time. The materia system however I enjoyed toying with and wished more titles has used a system like it. 4 is just the classic simple RPG that you can't completely hate. This is where FF started it's great Super Nintendo to PlayStation era of great games.

I couldn't possibly decide between IV, VI, IX and the old XI. They all had pretty cool plots, interesting characters, awesome music... overall they're all about as good as each other imo, and they all evoke good memories. Also VIII and Tactics deserve an honorable mention in my book; VIII because even though it didn't have the best plot ever and had an extremely exploitable combat system, it had perhaps the most epic character in the series (Laguna ftw) along with some cool scenes - and Triple Triad -, and Tactics because the whole thing was just epic pretty much from start to finish. Though fuck whoever thought up that one huge dick move with a certain Lucavi... whoever's played the game will know the one. >.>

BTW, I find it funny that the title says "aside from ARR", lol. Like, seriously? Whoever were to list ARR as their favorite from the whole series must have some really, really low standards...

9, 11, and 12 had my favorite worlds in terms of exploration, creativity, and scope.

1-5 where decent but standard fantasy world fare. 6-8 had a neat technology meets fantasy style, but never really hooked me. 10 was pretty cool, but the hallway style of exploration really cut down my interest. 13 was just a mess in every sense.

No FF title comes close to FFXI Online ever! Never in my life I played a game for that long and had tons of fun, I spent 10 years from 25 years old to 35 years old playing the best game of all. Once in a lifetime for real!!!

Final Fantasy 3 on the SNES. That was the very first FF game I played and since then, continued on to the rest of the series. And yes, I know 3 is the same as 6 (i think) but it was the japanese version that used 3 and that was the copy i had for the SNES. Sucks that ive lost it many years ago. A close second would be 12. Why? I loved how they broke the traditional turn based battle system with an extremely fluid open world real time system, plus zodiac traiting. Wish they went back to that than the POS 13.

If that won't fly, Tactics. That game really fleshed out an amazing job system and it is still one of the best stories to ever come out of the FF series.

If you mean numbered only, it is a tie between VI and VIII.

My runner up is Lost Odyssey. It is the best single player FF game to come out since IX.

Final fantasy 4. I don't know why more people don't like this one. Cecil fought himself every step - torn between love, his job, the empire and friendship all against a past which piled on top of his already heavy weighted responsibility. Yet he still gained the trust of the light(truth) after defeating his shadow puppet self. The very model (dark Knight) figure which the empire crafted Cecil to be and then to just be betrayed because he questioned the morality of his king's political shenanigans - and this on top of Golbez's deceptions to turn his best friend against him and steal up the woman he loves more than anything - and THEN! To find out he's related to Golbez... Come on.

Wow, amazed to see no one hating on each other in this thread Hmm I have only completed 8 thru 13, with crystal chronicles. And I have to say it goes 8, 9, Crystal Chronicles, 13, 12, 10

Why is crystal chronicles up there? because it was final fantasy local 4 player And it pulled it off realy well in my opionon. And i like the combat, it kept you on your toes. Plus moogle partner casting, amazing.

13 I do place on the top faves, The characer development is amazing IMO, simply because the characters actualy grew an changed, as they came to understand one another. Thats character development 101 there. But hay thats only based on my schooling for story writing and directing.

I adore FF6 but...

Final Fantasy 9, and totally because of Vivi. He's an amazing character, and I constantly feel for him. He embodies so much tragedy and confusion and he's just awesome about it. Where any of the other characters would be all and have weird hair, he just bucks up and deals because that's what he has to do. Best hero in any FF game, like. Ever.

VII, though Crisis Core made me hate Cloud, still FFVII is my favorite,for the story, for the music, the characters in general. I agree with some users, Kefka is the biggest badass of all FFSeries but Sephiroth looks so cool and insane, still not my fav villain but he's in the top. Cid, Cait Sith, Yuffie and ofcourse never to forget my favourite of all: Red XVIII, I adored this doggy <33333 and his Cities music, Cosmo Canyon, was way too sticky, I still have the melody in my head while I remind this I wound run in circles just to listen to this theme. Also the Chocobo races and breeding, I mean, for me, personally, FFVII over all FFs.
