Typing in message window during cut scenes with questions (PS3)

While a NPC is talking during a cut scene it is possible to mash on the controller's buttons and access the message window's typing field.

If the user is able to put the focus on the type field when the NPC is asking you a question. (During some cut scenes it asks you decide something) The user will not be able to answer the question because the focus is on the chat window... but the user cannot chat either... he/she can type and use tab to pull up the universal translator but there is no way to send message, enter/send does not function.

The game is in some limbo state at this point. There is no way to get out of this bug. User must shut down the machine by powering down. Pulling the internet cable only disconnects the PlayStation from being online which it has an error for but the game itself has no error message for this. The game will remain in this state and await user's decision for the cut scene which they cannot enter.

Have you pressed 'select' to try to 'tab' over to the other side?

As well, I have had to re-do quests, and a LOT of the times, so I usually mash 'x' just to get the convo's going. I cannot remember if I had ever done this with a choice in the dialog though.

There is no way to get it out of this state, i tried everything. User has to quit the game.
Tab does not work. The only thing you can type in the chat window is text form your keyboard and the "tab" key for the universal translator.
You however cannot transmit the message, the send function is not working in this state.

Damn. That sucks. I was hoping that you'd be able to tab out of it with 'select', but I guess not.

Likely, the game's tracking the button presses, and the large amount of them overloads the variable size that was designed for it, and starts dumping the text in the next memory location - which I'm guessing is the actual chat screen.

Funny enough, that was a brute force hack in the 80's when... ~cough~

ALLEGEDLY, it was a hack, and worked in the manner that I described - by overloading the memory's storage of the user's password, and allowing machine code to be entered into the next memory space. Effectively dropping you to the root. Anyhow, sorry to hear about it, and now I have to be more careful too :/

Tab does not work.

NOT the TAB - Select! I'm pretty sure it does work as that's the key to "tab" / change between the windows and as far as I know works everywhere. I've had the same situation - during the intial "travel" to the home city I've pressed enter and starter to type in the chat box and when the dialog box came up asking me about why I go there I've used select to get to the dialog box and to answer (you might need to press circle or ESC once or twice first to "unfocus" the actual typing box in the chat) but it definitelly works as I've done several times since in various cut scenes and such. Alternativelly you can also use either normal USB mouse or the virtual one (press L1+R3 to activate / deactivate virtual mouse, then use R stick to move and L2 + R2 as left / right mouse keys).
