Modern MMO's pretty much all use chat bubbles. FFXI, a now-archaic design does not, which is obviously the system FFXIV is based off of. I fail to see that point.
Furthermore, once again, redundancy depends on how it is implemented and it's usage. I for one don't want to constantly have to look at chat logs (I've seperated all chat from the battle log already so it's not like im complaining its hard to see what people are saying). I simply think that if any design is outdated, it's the idea that players of MMOs should constantly be looking at the bottom of their screen at HP bars and logs as opposed to what's actually going on.
Perhaps I'd prefer to have my chatlogs fade out pretty quickly and not even have it on screen most of the time, because most other data aside from communication between players can be seen outside of logs anyway.
Also, saying it's cluttering is, once again, pointless being as if you turn it off it doesn't matter anyway. I made the thread with the intention of discussing it's application and methods of implementation, rather than people going "NO", just like they did with so many other quality-of-life changes we've seen already.
