sounds more like you jumped to conclusions and made false evidence to support your case. (()) has been the OOC indicator for decades of forum/mud/game/chatroom roleplay. it differentiates what is being said in character with what is being said out of character in an instantly recognisable way to other rpers. Naturally everyone has to learn this at some point, but it's usually done by asking what they're for, instead of getting pissed off at their use.

There are plenty of people who put actions in their ooc aswell, such as prodding someone, hugging someone or similar, it's not RP in the narative sense, but just the general chat room stuff that i'm sure you yourself have used from time to time.

I think you're getting faaar too aggrovated over something so completely off of this thread's topic.

back to the topic at hand, Speech bubbles... don't really care for them, don't have anything against them if they don't get in my way personally. A chat log with permanently recorded text will always be better than a 3 second pop up.

I think an ideal solution would be to keep the chat-log, with toggleable bubbles for those who don't want them, making it so that the user could disable the log from auto-opening on every message. If memory doesn't fail me that's how PSO worked. You had everything kept in a log which you could open if you wanted.

That way a user who wasn't interested in the chat-log for something other than double checking what was said could keep the chat-box hidden at all times.

But generally speaking when playing in a party you don't need to read a message for more than a few seconds.
It'd be a lot more action oriented if when someone needs to trigger something to just have the message pop up in the middle of the screen (this actually follows the same logic SE used for pop up 3d text on damage numbers).

I personally wouldn't use the bubbles for stuff like linkshell chat. But I see them a lot better for things like say and party than the chat box.

The only speech bubble i want to see is the one popping up on peoples screen when you finally give us a button to boot in-active players from the linkshell at any time. Jesus that's button would be like getting a NM drop with a 0.02 drop rate.

This thread has already over 3k views and that little crown symbol. So yay, it is a hot topic. I say Keep it roaring and we'll see if developer plans stay the same.
Its a hot topic because people hate the idea with a passion and are flooding here to make sure that this idea is NOT getting a lot of support, because we would all be beating our heads into the wall if we allowed this to get implemented because we just didn't bother looking at a thread we didn't care for.

These following thoughts are for us all to discuss, I read this was not the place to write them down for the developers to get them, but I would like to hear from other players what their thoughts are...

I don't think speech bubbles are right for the game, but I do think the chat needs to be improved. Linkpearls are great for comunicating with your friends, but for those who yet don't have friends in-game it's quite difficult to make them if they don't "hear" the ppl who are playing, so maybe the main chat should get more inviting to use.
Ppl use linkpearls and the main chat is always empty so whenever a new characters wishes to speak to someone they have to use the tell-command (/t) followed by the name of the character.
(Now correct me if I'm wrong and what I am about to suggest already exists) This way is ok the first time, but there should be a way for one to press a button, example spacebar+up (like I said, correct me if this already exists) and the last name you put appears automatically with nothing else written besides that (example: /t name surname )
This PARTLY works, the name appears but also the last thing you have written so you basically have to erase the last text you put there if you want to do this... It would truly make it easier to whisp to someone if the tell command was more automatic.
Also this tiny little thing has been bothering me... Sometimes I get a tell from someone and at the same time the system information pops up in the chat screen and I have to roll back to read what they have written to me. It's not really a big deal but maybe there could be another, yet smaller window for the system information only, I think this would really help.

The guides in-game are quite bad. I often find myself looking for explanations on the web for many things (also since I am still a newbie). Maybe new characters could get a manual in-game that explains simple things like how to comunicate, how crafting/fishing/logging trees/mining/etc. works, what the colours on the things you're crafting/etc. means, things like that. I believe a good game should be able to provide the enough BASIC information without one having to look for it elsewhere.

I want to add that I love the game, of course it is still new and still improving, I hope my thoughts and ideas doesn't offend anyone.
    Take care ppl!

As long as the chat bubble feature, if ever it is implemented, is a toggle feature. Otherwise, no thank you to speech bubbles - I do not want to sit there and feel like I am reading a fraking comic book. No.. thank.. you.
