I think this happened with TRION and RIFT. There were a lot of people that had their account taken over and it was because of a Database problemBased on the sheer number of reports, and the situations I've been reading in regards to them. I actually wonder if SE themselves have had a database hack, and they have not caught it yet. With the HUGE hype ARR has gotten it has attracted folks of all types. I think it is very possible that this happened.
If they have a list of usernames, it is possible they are simply brute-forcing accounts until they bite. Maybe Ryujin became a victim of this combined with some bad-timing of his token not transferring over instantly.
Dear OP same thing hapoened to me. Sadly i am in the same boaz as you. My norton was down for two weeks and i do a lot of internet reading as well so thats how i think i got nailed. I have a ticket open with SE also. This is not the press they need consodering this is a re laumch so they will have to action it eventually and make sure people get their gil and items back. Personally i dont care about the few allagan peice i lost but i do care about my gil i saved from 1.0. Need less to say its a crap ton of gil that i held onto just for 2.0
My account too was also hacked a few days ago, all of the Gil in my retainer and in my inventory was taken.
- The password I used for FFXIV was 100% unique.
- I've never bought Gil before, why would you?
I emailed support but I doubt they will help me at all really, at least it wasn't too bad (300k). But I still wonder how in the hell they got my information in the first place.
Just a heads up, when Rift was launched someone found a flaw in the game that you could bypass the autentication process. A player found out and help Trion to solve it. So, lots of players were hacked and it was not related with password at all.
I heard there is an issue that when people log onto their own account, they are somehow accidentally logged onto a different persons account completely. Then, after then accidentally logged onto your account, you can no longer access it because it was accessed from a different IP then usual.
I am always Happy. You should be too. -Laughing Lotus
I hope you get your account back dear, I've known you for years and I know you're really frustrated. <3
I'm just a bun boy, doing bun boy things.
While I really feel sorry for you, there is one thing I don't get.
Why did you need to remove your current token to move it to the mobile one? Was it not working in the first place? It seems like you kinda screwed yourself over from the get-go.
"If it aint broke, don't try to fix it" is a little bit of knowledge i'd like to pass on to you sir.

I looked it up and it was TRION that had their database hacked.
Same thing happened with Turbine and LOTRO. My dormat account that I haven't logged into for 3 years was hacked and they took everything from my inventory.

When you activated the token password the FIRST TIME, they provided you with a special password to keep JUST IN CASE you lose or decide to remove your authenticator. Im guessing you didnt read the e-mail right?
Its not Squares fault a keylogger was on your system and you didnt have your one-time password setup correctly or stored the backup reset password. Im sure they can roll you back but its not their fault its yours and yours alone for not taking the precautions.
