I agree. I try to keep melee items together, casting items together, hand items together, land items together, etc. I also agree that it would be nice to hover and see which set an item belongs to. I keep waiting for the day I sell or break something down by accident because it didn't show a gear set and thought it was an older item not in use.
To get around this temporarily, I made a gear set as a "placeholder" of sorts out of my starter gear and as I level the pieces that I outgrow and no longer use. I have to switch to it in between every outfit change which is a pain (besides the fact that storage will become an issue) but so is reorganizing the 20+ gear main-hand items for every class and craft. @.@ I wish each gear set had its own little window where it held them. It's great being able to do so much on one character but I think my head is going to explode sometimes from the lack of organization.
