    Building a Desktop.

I play RR on a laptop at the moment but what to build a desktop to play RR on instead as the laptop barley manages it I already have a Graphics card (Nvidia Geforce GTX 560) and power supply (Corsair 800 Watt, 80+ Bronze, ATX).

What I am after is something that can play RR without any problems preferably on max settings (without costing me a bomb of course =p) I have an idea of what to get but I only know a little bit about computers so want some advice on how good the hardware is and if I would better off with something else I will link below the hardware I was thinking of getting any advice etc is greatly welcome.

    Ram: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

    Motherboard: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

    Processor: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

    Hard drive: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digi...rds=hard+drive

Also would I be better off with Win 7 or 8 64bit.

    or if you're poor!

This is my setup btw, runs like a charm on 1440p.

All of those components are great. The only recommendation I have is purchase an SSD instead of the 1TB Caviar Blue. The Caviar Blue drives have a smaller cache, so your performance would be impacted on initial loading and during texture fetches, and a shorter warranty of three years. Go for a 250GB SSD or more, both the Samsung EVO line of drives and SanDisk Extreme and Extreme 2 SSDs are excellent performance and very well priced. You can always get an inexpensive WD drive for long-term storage later on. A very good 2TB Caviar Black from WD would set you back only about 100GBP and comes with an excellent 5-year manufacturer's warranty.

Well it all depends on what you're willing to pay. You say you don't want to pay bomb, but that might mean something different for each person. Most people I know that build gaming pc's want to spend around $800-$1k which might be roughly what you're looking to spends in pounds sterling.

The PSU you have is good, the gpu could be upgraded but it should be fine for now. Your MOBO is a decent choice and so is your CPU. HD is good too. SSD's are cheaper now than they were before so you might be able to get a good deal on those, and they'll eventually get even cheaper if you want to wait. I personally use an SSD for my boot drive for the OS and core programs while putting all my games and other things I download on a larger drive that's also hooked up via SATA 6 gb/s which is what you have on your mobo.

Now this is where it gets tricky. The RAM is where computers can live and die. W7 64 bit home professional I found out only has a 16 gb max, with how cheap ram is that poses a problem. If you upgrade to the higher version of W7 64 bit then the limitations get raised to 128 gbs or something insane. W8 64 bit has virtually no limit on all versions of the OS. However personally I don't like the look of W8 and enjoy my copy of W7.

Another thing is that I don't know if you checked because I haven't bothered to, but you should try to look for ram thats on your QVL or Qualified Vendors list. That means that the ram on that list has been tested to work well with your MOBO. Sometimes ram isn't very compatible and causes BSODS.

Another thing is that sometimes you want to add more ram, so you want to be careful of your first purchase. Otherwise when you try to add existing ram it'll cause compatibility issues. Meaning if you buy 8 gbs of the corsair now, and try to buy another 8 gbs later you could get incompatible modules even if they are the same brand and the same "model" #. There is a reason for that, but I don't feel the need to bore you with the details. Needless to say sometimes you can double up and it works fine, and sometimes you draw the short straw and they don't work well together.

Case is somewhat important because of the noise. I use a liquid cooling solution for my CPU thats all inclusive from corsair so you just plug it in and it's good to go. I air cool the rest of my components. I use the cooler master RAF 922 case since it has a 200 mm in the front, 200 exhaust on the top and I mounted a quiet 120 mm on the side with the liquid cooled radiator fan pulling in air from the back.

What some people forget is that the flow of air in the case is important and you want to have usually the equal amount of air coming in as going out, the cooler your components stay the longer the life. Dust is also a problem too, so keep all those factors in mind. I personally like bigger fans because they spin and lower RPM's which usually means a lower decibel level. Right now my computer runs about the same sound level as an empty library.

If you're from the UK, have you used www.overclockers.co.uk before? It's a very good site, I bought my latest parts from there for my new build. Great delivery times and I've not had a single bad part.

Thanks for the help guys Stryker which version of win 7 would you suggest as I am not a fan of win 8 either. I am looking at spending between the £800-£1k price maybe a bit more for a whole new build but I was going to replace the Gpu last and not for another month or so.
How much better would something like this be

    Cpu: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Graphi...+Core+i7+4770K

    Mobo: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Z87-PRO-Moth...omputers_img_z

    Ram: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CML1...omputers_img_y

    SSD: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Seri...ords=ssd+drive

I already have a case given to me from a friend its a Cooler Master HAF X Usb 3.0 XL ATX Case.

You'll very much enjoy playing on that system, Naya. Hold out for a few months on the GPU, as AMD will be releasing the new Hawaii series of cards in about a month and Nvidia has their Maxwell SKUs in the pipeline for the first or second quarter of next year; which should coincide with the release of the DX11 engine for FFXIV. I suggest you save some money on the CPU and go for a 4670k instead. The performance difference will be imperceptible at worst and non-existent at best. Especially in gaming.
