Black Screen -> Low FPS problem

This is strange problem that occurs occasionally for me, often times many times in a row if I am in same area.

Using 660 Gforce ti/i7/8 gig ram/win 7/not sure drivers (they are a few months old)

This does not happen in any other game I play so not sure if it's a system problem or a game bug. Wondering if anyone else has encountered this...

What happens is: the game will freeze, then the screen will go totally black for 5-10 seconds, and then the game will pop back up but at severly reduced FPS (5-13) which is unplayable.

While the screen is black; the cursor is still up and the game is apparently still running. I can still play but the FPS is dreadfully bad...

To fix this, I have to restart client from scratch. This problem usually repeats a over and over within 1-10 mins until I move to a new zone which tends to make it stop. Weird thing is that I have played for upwards of 12 hours straight with absolutely no problems then it happens. I am not sure what triggers this. So far it only happens in open world, however I have not done that many instances yet. Have tried many different settings but to no avail.

It might be something to do with the time of day in game and or perhaps when I right click/hold to pan over hidden UI bars. I am using 2 verticals and 2 horizontals. The horizontals might be the problem? Might be something to do with a player/npc skill graphic since I am usually in combat when it starts to bad. I can't seem to reproduce it on demand.

This one seems to be random. Not everyone gets this, though most of us are getting bad FPS. So it's kinda hard to pin this one down. you could look in your event manager and see what error codes your are getting.

Also like to note, I do get lower FPS in crowds (24-34) but usually at 60 or 100+ if I turn limiter off and in less populated areas.

Like said, game runs pretty smooth except this one annoying problem that occurs now and then (and likes to repeat 5+ times until I go to another map/zone usually).

Yes, press the windows key and type event viewer in the search bar. double click the windows log and click application. Locate the time where this problem occurred and you should see an error,click on that and it gives you the error code and event ID

disable all physx for everyone but yourself
disable or lower to mid others spell effects


youre running out of resources, lower the effects and this will stop happening.

My PC is not that bad and runs things like BF3 on max no problem so yea. I mean, this only happens occasionally! It's not like it does this all the time. I run 60+ FPS most the time for long stretches then SOMETHING produces this problem. This last time, I was the ONLY person in the area; there was no one around at all to produce effects. Just three NPCs I fought and killed. I spent the whole evening (10+ hours) in a 50+ player zerg with full effects going on on high settings and it never happened once. Then I went to do lvl 45 quest and it happened 3x in a row then stopped when I went back to the fate grind zerg.

I firmly believe this is some sort of bug. As to the trigger, I can't figure it out...hum.

So I've done some searching and Event ID 1000 is associated with a number of problems,which is unfortunate. I'm assuming you've tried a fresh install of the game? Also makes sure you have up to date drivers on everything possible. And as dumb as this may sound, re-seat your graphics card just for extra measure. I'm sorry I couldn't help you further, but if you could try these, how ever tedious, would go a way to ruling out certain problems.

Update: that error I listed actually is not the problem. It happened again earlier today so I quickly alt tabbed to check to see if this error was listed in the event manager: it was not listed. Rechecked this every time it did it and was not listed once. Also this problem occurred with everything at lowest settings so that is not the issue.

And the weirdest thing is that if I alt tab to desk top and go back in game 10+ seconds later: the FPS drop goes away with no need to restart client. Yay?

Also I took my PC to the shop and had it checked by several techs and there is nothing wrong with my machine far as they can tell. They told me this has to be a game bug. Also worth noting....the shop I go to has been getting a few calls already about problems with the 660 ti and FF 14 RR. My problem has to be a bug that might be related to other people who uses the same card and is having major FPS problems as well...
