Severe Lag After 4 or 5 PM! Help!

Hey guys. So I've been having a recurring issue where around 4 or 5 PM EST my game starts lagging severely and basically continues to lag for the rest of the night. I'm talking about latency here, not FPS. My sending/receiving seem about normal, or at least in line with what other people tell me theres are. For instance right now I have 48 sending and 3285 receiving. I ask other people what their numbers are and they tell me more or less the same yet they're getting no significant lag at all. It would make sense that the server load is heavier from 4-5 EST and onward, but nobody else I've talked to seems to be having this problem so I guess that isn't the issue.

To describe the problem in detail, basically I'm getting frequent lag spikes where I'm essentially d/ced for 2-4 seconds. During this time everyone around me stops moving, I can't cast abilities, etc. In 2-4 seconds everyone suddenly warps from their stuck position to where they actually are. This happens about once every 10-15 seconds. Obviously this is a HUGE deal in raids/dungeons. In an AK run I just did the last boss literally cast and hit me with his tail whip within a single lag spike... Its even worse on titan.

yea i know, many server now are too full, people still spamming login (including me :P but i stopped already)

I dont think its an issue with being full because everyone I've talked to hasn't had any lag comparable to this.

well... not everyone are good at seeing lantacy lag.
thats why logout and restart the router and login again, if it still the same then it is the server problems

Same thing has been happening to me the past two days as well. I realize it's the weekend and there are more people on, but still. The solution I found was to log out, check and see what your connection says on the character select screen. If it's like mine, it will say 'poor' which is (from what I deduced) not YOUR home connection (i.e. home network, ISP) but the server itself to you. I completely exited the game both times, started back up and the game then says excellent and is fine again for several hours.

It seems as if they've placed a cap on usage per connection now, instead of actually increasing the capacity for all aspects of the data center. It also seems as if connections are 'degrading' over time, based on various factors, some of which are out of their control i'm sure.

This is just speculation, since FFXIV is the only environment i've had trouble with since the latency started.

Try adjusting your filters to remove special effects. This helped me and a few of my friends. You can find this under character settings.

How do I do this/ I went through everything in character settigns and couldn't find anything related to special effects.

On PS3 you go into Character Configuration > Character where you can alter the Battle Effect Settings for yourself/party/others between show all/show limited/show none. Assume it would be somewhere similar for PC.

This happens to me on and off during peak times, but usually not in dungeon,. The one time it did happen in dungeon it was pretty horrible. It was worst when after the fight the tank was down. And I couldn't raise. I would raise. Lag spike interrupted raise. Over and over. Things kept doing random.. I don't know what. I ultimately quit the dungeon in hopes I could log back in.. But then I had trouble connecting again. I think the party thought I was just trolling them.
