Why is 90% of our server in Uldah?

There is a grossly disproportionate distribution of players across the 3 major cities in the game. Gridania is a ghost town and Limsa feels only barely better =/. Then if I ever do a r40 leve in LL or Grid I see NO ONE but myself. Go to uldah and there is crowds of linkshell members and what not.

The only reasons Uldah is popular is because its the middle city as well as where the current main story line takes place. Im from gridania, and will go back once they fix the black shroud. Ill go as far as saying that, LL is the best looking city and surrounding zones, but Uldah at the end of the day is still the central hub.

Yea, I hate the fact that Uldah is the middle one as well, considering the desert scenery, I wish Uldah was lush forests and grid was the desert.

I am from Ul'dah tis my home city. But 3000 nailed it. People hate going to grid due to the black shroud area, no one is there, no market wards really exist due to no one being there I don't think many people do leves out there either. LL is ok, I'll go from time to time, I just can't deal with the fact that the whole thing is like a straight line with branches. Makes it hard to get around town. Ul'dah is just ideal, market wards are packed, in the middle of LL and Grid, and has the most people doing leves and getting ranked up.

I kind of find it a plus that everyone uses a common HUB too meet, since there are no /sea all or decent search functions, eventhough this does limit players from exploring. Also (from what I have seen) our server doesn't utilize the party search function. So the best way to have a pick up party is to either shout in Ul'Dah or just ask people that you know or random people that you can find around your lvl.

Once they implement a better way of getting around (chocobos, teleports) rather than anima I think that will also spread out the population. But until they do implemnt something like a decent /sea function or flag system, i.e like FFXI then I think it is all in our best interest to try and stay in one city to save anima, time, and frustration. In my opinion

Also, once an expansion comes out that unlocks new cities or what not, my guess is that most players will be migrating to those new areas to make room for new players just starting out in the original cities. But I don't think that will be happening for some time. Just have to give it awhile

I was asking about this too, i feel the same, Ul'Dah is really bland, but LL is almost dead and Grid, well the puzzle-like roads are annoying there, but it is pretty.
I hope the introduction of Chocobos will spread us out as already said, but i'm also hoping that the creators add some other reasons to explore the two lesser used cities, like maybe some unique quests that have rare drops or even some NM's with rare drops...saying that i went to Grid yesterday to kill an NM that had a nice drop, but left for Ul'Dah after it'd been killed

Another thing that hopefully will bring people back to the other cities is the Grand Companies they are starting to introduce. I hope they inact like City specific/Grand Company specific quests that keep you in a certain area. Quests that give you lets say Company Points that you can use at certain Grand Company stores or something like that.

Yeah i noticed that LL was almost dead, ive not been on for a while and when i logged back in yesterday it was quiet. I was worried that ppl had left the server. I do like the look of Uldah but definatley reminds me of good old Jeuno from final fantasy XI. I ve not really travelled anywhere else, need to go out to Grid, not been there yet so cant comment on numbers there.

I think I will be planning my return to Gridania once the Grand Companies are released. I have a feeling that it will turn the cities into rivals.. and I guess I will be supporting my home team ;p
