    /say dialogue animations?

I wonder if it would be interesting if Square Enix tried to do one better than World of Warcraft in one thing:

Facial/body animations during /say dialogue with other players.

When you type and talk in WoW, your character animates according to the dialogue, though it is straightforward.

If Square-Enix could somehow implement a context-sensitive version of the dialogue where using exclamation points or questions, or even pointed statements would result in a different kind of animation.

    An example is this:

"What's going on?" (Resultant Animation for Miqo'te: Cocking the head to one side in curious wonder)

"Oh, what the hell are you doing!?" (Resultant animation for most characters: Angry expression.)

Also, lip synching would be applicable here, too. Kind of like how the NPCs lip-synch their basic dialogue in cutscenes. That should be applied to player characters.

The whole point of this is to make your characters seem more animated and part of the world, rather than a stone pillar of unspeakingness.

I believe Aion had this too. Text based animation triggers, I know the RP community would love this.

They kinda did this in aion with emotes and such, detecting words you typed... Really flawed and still hasn't been perfected or even worked on, but a good idea none the less^^ Hehe

One of the problems is that this game is a Japanese/English international release, so that creates some complexities about context-sensitive programming. Perhaps for starters just a simple chatting animation would be adequate.

They could start with the auto translated phrases

I'm talking about the Japanese Language's differences from the English language, not auto-translate. By that, I'm referring to the fact that they use Kanji, Katakana, and Hiragana for various forms of text communication. Can you imagine an entire dictionary's worth of context-sensitive programming work for each of these language types? And the fact that some Japanese use two or more of these languages interchangeably?

Yeah, no. That would be a nightmare.

Hiragana, katakana, and kanji are all part of one Japanese language. They are not individual languages.

What I meant was, they could associate some emotes with some phrases in the autotranslate. Like (What?) and (Huh?) and others lol
