OP, you made two threads of the exact same thing, but in both threads you neglected to mention the state you were playing the PS3. Sure FFXIV: ARR was the game you were playing when your PS3 died, but was it true culprit for the demise of your PS3?
There are other factors that could have been leading up to the demise of your PS3, and FFXIV was the trigger:
Are you giving adequate ventilation to your PS3? If there's not enough airflow due to placing your PS3 in an enclosed space, placing the back of your PS3 up against a wall or case, guess what happens? That air that is ventilating is being pushed back into your PS3 causing overheating issues.
How dusty is your PS3? Have you been cleaning it regularly? Are you playing in an area where dust accumulates a lot (I.e: Playing in a carpeted area.)?
What is the model make of your PS3? Is it the Phat PS3? If it is, then it's a known issue that those models have a moderate fail rate due to faulty hardware/poor manufacturing (mainly bad soldering). Has your PS3 been freezing lately up until that point? What about other games you play, did you have any other issues playing other games?
How much HDD space did you have when you installed FFXIV?
What are your playing habits? How often have you been playing FFXIV at one time? How often do you use your PS3?
Were your fans roaring when playing other games besides FFXIV? There's a chance that could've been a warning sign that your PS3 was about to bite the dust (not always, but probable).
I know many people playing the PS3 version of FFXIV and none of them had the issue you had. I've also had many friends who had a PHAT PS3 who had the same issue you had, except they were playing other games. I've also heard some of my friends who had their PS3 poorly ventilated (both Slim and Phat) and fell into the same issue you had, except with guess what? Other games.
